About Us ….

Kinship Support Services Program is a non-profit program that is operated by the Kern Child Abuse Prevention Council/ Haven Counseling Center. Services are provided free to all registered participants. There are no age or income requirements to participate. It opened in April 2008 and provides a safe supportive program of resources, activities, education and counseling for grandparents and other relatives, friends and neighbors who are caring for children other than their own. The program is receiving short term funding by a California Department of Social Services grant, coordinated by Kern County Department of Human Services.

Our Services….

Case ManagementOne of the strengths of the KSSP program is a full-time case manager who can help caregivers solve problems and get resources for families.  Counseling For Adults and Children Personalized counseling is available for all kinship adults and children on an individual and group basis. Tutoring/Homework HelpAn opportunity for children to get help with homework or extra help with difficult subjects.  Guardianship AssistanceKSSP offers referrals to Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance and the Self Help Center for assistance in applying for guardianship.

Support GroupsAn opportunity for people in the kinship role to get to know one another, solve problems, share ideas and experiences and develop a support network.   Kids Night (1 st Friday) An activity program for all of the children and a break for the adult caregivers. At the Downtown Child Development Center -1130 17th Street. Includes dinner.   Kinship Family Night (3 rd Monday) Activities and dinner for the whole family. At the Downtown Child Development Center -1130 17th Street.
