Growing JoeysHaving settled into our wonderful new environment we

are growing friendships, growing in confidence and helping other things grow!

As we grow we are learning to show care and concern for each other and express ourselves in our play.

Parenting with Power

Scripture of the week: And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.

Deuteronomy 6:6-7

It’s Like a Bonsai Tree

The word discipline used in the Old Testament is translated from the Hebrew word, chanak and means to train. Training implies guidance to a particular goal. A bonsai exhibit displayed many small beautiful trees, each in their own pot. Next to each tree was a card telling the story of that particular tree. It was interesting to read how long the training had been going on. Many had been in process for 30-40 years and one began its training over 100 years ago. Training takes time. Too much force will break a branch and too little care returns the plant to the wild. The same is true with children. Firm consistent discipline is needed to guide and direct children. Some parents are tempted to have a few big consequences to really make an impression on their child. Rather, many small corrections and consequences would be more effective. Many of the problems children have are either behavioural habits or character deficiencies. It would be nice if they could have a burning bush experience that would change their lives instantly, but it usually doesn’t happen that way. Even Moses had to spend forty years in the desert as a shepherd leading sheep before he was ready to lead people. Change takes time and many small corrections and reminders can contribute to long-term change in your child.

Choose a character quality your child needs, define it, think of ways to implement it, and pray that God will use your daily words and actions of correction to help your child make the heart changes necessary.

Strategy for the week: Think of a character quality your child needs. Once you have defined it, think of the ways you can enhance the development of this trait. This will take time and effort so being consistent is a must. Taking it in smaller steps and developing it will lead to success.

SecondaryTime for a Chuckle

I thought it was time for something humorous, though the fact I can sometimes do something like this is a bit of a worry!

Some Days I WonderA few days ago, after leaving a meeting at church, I reached

for my car keys in my pocket, only to discover they weren’t there. Desperately, I gave myself a quick personal pat down. But they were not in any of my pockets. So, I went back to the meeting room and looked every place I had been. Suddenly it dawned on me, I must have left them in the car. Frantically, I headed for the parking lot.

My wife, Diane, has scolded me many times for leaving the keys in the ignition. My theory is the ignition is the best place not to lose them. Her theory is that the car will be stolen. As I burst through the doors of the church, I came to a terrifying conclusion. Her theory was right. The parking lot was empty.

I immediately called the police. I gave them my location, confessed that I had left my keys in the car, and that it had been stolen. Then I made the most difficult call of all.

“Honey,” I stammered. I always call her ‘honey’ in times like these. “I left my keys in the car, and it has been stolen.”

There was a period of silence. I thought the call had been dropped, but then I heard Diane’s voice.

“Ken,” she barked, “I dropped you off!” Now it was my time to be silent. Embarrassed, I said, “In that case, would you please come and pick me up?”

Diane retorted, “I will....... just as soon as I can convince this policeman I didn’t steal your car.”

A few more laughs...

Humorous SignsIn the offices of a loan company: “Ask about our plans for owning your home.” On the grounds of a public school: “No trespassing without permission.” In a Maine restaurant: “Open 7 days a week and weekends.”

Happy parenting. I wish you Jesus. A choice to make. Remember God’s esteem. Ideal Valentine. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Why/How. The Greatest. The joy of motherhood. Give thanks. Pray. Thankful hearts are happy hearts. Trust the Lord. Know who you are in Christ. Nurture compassion. Have a chuckle.

~ Rhonda Bevan, Head of Secondary

GeneralYou Can Be StrongQuote from ‘Walk in Faith’ by Ray McCauley

In conclusion, be strong in the Lord (be empowered through your union with Him); draw your strength from Him (that strength which His boundless might provides). Ephesians 6:10

The Holy Spirit is the power to live. This is why you need to have a personal relationship with Him. He will teach you, strengthen you and counsel you. It is essential to have an intimate relationship with Him. God is the One and the only One who gives the ability to meet a need, the ability to achieve what an individual cannot achieve. None of us can even be an effective witness without the Holy Spirit.

Did you know that you can be strong - not as a body-builder - but strong in the Lord. You will have strength to do all that He has called you to do as you are yoked together with Christ. Paul said, “For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Cor 12:10)

You may need strength simply to face the days ahead, you may need strength to overcome a particular situation, you may need strength in your work-place. In whatever area you have a need, God will be your strength if you allow Him to be.

Allow God to be your strength today. If you wish to contact Guy Ormerod, College Chaplain,

you can write to - [email protected] or pastoral care: Kerrilee Walsingham - [email protected]

News from the King’s Locker Room WEEK 5

Coles Sport for Schools

Last week, no less than 11 fully loaded boxes filled with brand new sporting equipment arrived at our door step - ready for our students to play and learn with.

This came courtesy of the Coles for Schools program (2011), where our wonderful community of parents and friends collected well over 10,000 vouchers!!!! We estimated that this gave us the chance to order approximately $5,000 of equipment!!! The Sports Department has decided to share this blessing with our lower primary students, who will now have LOADS of new gear to use during break times and also during their PE lessons!

We would like to sincerely thank all who were able to contribute towards this by returning your Coles vouchers - because at the end of the day - the gift came from you!!

This year we are off and flying with already one huge box filled to the brim! So please continue to return those vouchers so we can continue to share the blessings around!

From everyone at King’s - THANK YOU!!

It’s on again!

Please keep those Coles vouchers coming in.
