The magnetic numbers support the idea that the teacher can take the number off of the desk when the student is not complying with the rules without having to interrupt class with a discussion or drawing attention to the student’s mistake. The teacher would si mply take the number and place it on the board. I suggest that teachers set up an area of encouraging words where the numbers will be placed on the board. This will give students some reassurance that they can change their behavior and earn back their chance to play. I have included a picture of the ticket booth that I used to hold the tickets that students lost. At the beginning of the year, the students made encouragement signs that we hung on the booth as reminders to make good choices.

Kimberly’s Carnival Directions Setup

Assign each student a number by placing a magnetic number on the student’s desk. Free printable tickets are attached to this

document. Page 6 and 7 of this document are the golden tickets and golden ticket certificates. They can to be printed on yellow paper

and the additional ticket pages (pages 8-21 depending on how many ticket numbers you need to print) can be printed on any color

paper you choose.

Assigning numbers:

Once you print the numbers on colored paper, laminate and cut out the numbers and add magnets. Randomly assign the numbers by

placing one magnet on each student’s desk. As long as the student engages in positive school behaviors, they keep their number and

are “in the game.” These behaviors are based upon the rules of your classroom which should be posted and clearly defined. Children

who exhibit non-preferred school behaviors lose their number and are out of the game until they earn their number back. The

magnetic numbers support the idea that the teacher can take the number off of the desk when the student is not complying with the

rules without having to interrupt class with a discussion or drawing attention to the student’s mistake. The teacher would simply take

the number and place it on the board. I suggest that teachers set up an area of encouraging words where the numbers will be placed

on the board. This will give students some reassurance that they can change their behavior and earn back their chance to play. I have

included a picture of the ticket booth that I used to hold the tickets that students lost. At the beginning of the year, the students made

encouragement signs that we hung on the booth as reminders to make good choices.

Golden Tickets:

The golden ticket certificates are on page 7 of this document and can be printed on yellow paper. The golden tickets are on page 6 of this document and can

also be printed on yellow paper, cut, laminated and have a magnet attached just as you did for the previous numbers. The “golden ticket” magnet is for any

student that you catch engaging in an extraordinary positive behavior. This ticket allows the student a guaranteed chance to go to the carnival and play a game

at the end of the day. For instance, a child who is struggling with staying seated all day has successfully made it through a day without getting out of his seat

once. The teacher would give him the golden ticket magnet and send home a “golden ticket” certificate to share his success with his family.

Setting up the App:

To set up the app, click on the wrench on the front page. This will take you to a page where you can input your numbers to be seen on the wheel. So if you

have 25 students, you would need to type in each number from 1 -25. Next, you can put in the number of prizes the students can win. The more prizes

available, the more motivating the game will become. I would also recommend changing the prizes throughout the year to maintain motivation of positive

behaviors. I like having prize bins, so the student knows which prizes are represented by the numbers. See my photo below of a motivating prize bin.

How To Play

Intermittently throughout the day, the teacher will announce “Let’s go to the Carnival!” Playing the game sporadically throughout the day will promote

positive behavior at all times and not only when they know the teacher is about to spin the carnival wheel.

First, the teacher can spin a carnival wheel to find the “lucky winner” by clicking on the “Spin The Wheel” ticket on the front page of the app. This will

take you to the customized carnival wheel. To spin the wheel, simply click on it. The student whose assigned number is spun gets to go to the carnival. If

the student whose number is spun had their number placed on the board and they did not earn it back, the teacher spins the wheel again to find another

winner who engaged in positive behaviors and earned the chance to play. Once you have identified a winner, click on the arrow in the top right hand corner

of the carnival wheel page to advance to the game choice page.

Page 4: Kimberly's carnival directions to play

The winning student comes up to the IPAD and chooses which carnival game they would like to play. There are three carnival games to choose from;

Balloon Harpoon (throw darts to pop balloons and win a prize), Lucky Ducky (a classic duck pond game) and Trash Can Catapult (attempt to catapult the

fish bones into the trash can of your choice). In all of the games, the children are playing to win a prize. After they play the game, a prize number will be

presented to let the student know which numbered prize or prize bin they won.

Golden Ticket

The “Golden Ticket” button on the application homepage is a straight shot to the game choices that bypasses the wheel spin. This is for the student who

demonstrates an extraordinary positive behavior as previously described.
