Crystal structure consists of silica tetrahedra attached with allumina tetrahedra and magnesia octahedra.
Theoritical formula - 2MgO. 2Al2O3. 5SiO2
• High Resistance to thermal shock
• Low co-efficent to thermal expansion
• High strength at room & elevated temperature
• Density: 2.5-2.6 g/cm3 , Melting Pt: 1400⁰C
• Co-eff of T Expansion 20-1000⁰C : 1.2 x 10-6 K-1
