Khartoum Refinery is a modern refinery. It is a joint venture between China & Sudan , invested by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and Ministry of Energy & Mining of Sudan (MEM) ON 50% basis , the joint venture Agreement was signed in march 1997 .Construction was started in May 26th 1998, and considered May ,16th 2000 is the production date. The capacity is2.5 MM tons/year (50,000 bbl/day) .in the year 2003 MEM and CNPC decided to expand the refinery in order to process very severe crude produced from block 6 in west of Sudan (Fula). Expansion constructed in two phases, phase one completed in August 2004 and phase two in July 2006 entirely the refinery capacity become 5MM tons/year (100,000 bbl/day)
