The sun was setting in the west. There were a few birds flying back to their nests. In

Kampung Sepri, people were slowly going back to their houses after a hard day’s work in

the paddy fields. A few children were playing football in a field near their homes. Others

were watching the children play the game. There were some cows and goats eating grass

near the river.

Suddenly there was a loud scream from one of the children. Everyone stopped

what they were doing and rushed to find out what happened. There was a house on fire. It

was Encik Ramly’s house. He was still working in the paddy fields.

Everyone helped to put out the fire. When Encik Ramly heard that his house was on

fire, he quickly rushed home. He was very happy that his friends were able to put out the

fire. The fire started when his wife was cooking in the kitchen. She had accidentally

knocked one of the oil lamps and it fell on the stove. The kitchen caught fire and she did

not know what to do and ran away from there. Encik Ramly was thankful that his wife and

house were safe.
