Apprenticeships

Whatever your age,apprenticeships offer you thechance to earn whist you learn;giving you real employmentexperience at the same time asgaining the qualifications youneed to succeed.

Apprentices can start atany time during the year.Apprenticeships offered bythe College include a Level 2Apprenticeship (equivalent tofive GCSE passes), a Level3 Advanced Apprenticeship(equivalent to two A Levelpasses) and a Level 4 HigherApprenticeship (equivalent to aDegree level qualification).

A Level Accounting

What is the course about?

This subject lays an appropriatefoundation for further studies inAccountancy either at degree level,or through the professionalaccountancy bodies which includeAAT, ICAEW, CIMA, ACCA andCIPFA. The course introducesstudents to the processes involved inthe recording of financialtransactions and information, thepresentation of financial informationto stakeholders such as investors andfinancial institutions, and thepreparation of information formanagement decision making.

What will this course lead on to?

Typically, our students progress to aFoundation or Honours Degree inAccounting or professionalqualifications such as AAT. Somestudents may progress straight toemployment in an accounting role.

A Level Art and Design

What’s the course about?

This course gives you a broad experience in Art and Design. Students will practice a range of techniques including painting, drawing,print making, textiles, graphics and 3DDesign; all supported by contextual research. Workshops will develop practical skills whilst exhibition visits,lectures and talks by industry professionals will encourage an appreciation of historical and contemporary art.

What’s the course about?

This course investigates how molecules interact from complex to biological structures, cells, tissue, organs and organisms. The coursethen develops this concept and explains how organisms interact witheach other and their environments,covering units on Cells, Exchange andTransport, Communication, Homeostasis and Energy.

What’s the course about?

The Foundation Diploma acts as adiagnostic course for post A Levelstudents to enable them to identifyand interpret their strengths anddirection within Art and Design. Itis taught in three stages. What’s the course about?

This course is for students aged 19or over, who wish to progress touniversity and then follow a careeras a health professional. You will begiven a grounding in HealthScience and Human Biology andwill be able to choose a thirdoption. The course also includes amandatory Personal Developmentmodule, which helps prepare youfor the demands of HigherEducation.

The course includes the following

units:

■ Health Science■ Health Studies■ Human Biology■ Psychology

Entry Requirements:

GCSE English Language, Mathsand Science Grade C or above orthe Preparing for Access to Higher Education course.

What will this course lead on to?

Once you have completed this qualification you may progress onto university. Most students go onto health care degrees, including Nursing, Midwifery, Podiatry and Paramedic Science.

Knowsley Community College offers high quality degreelevel and HND programmes including those inpartnership with Edge Hill University. If you want to takeyour qualifications to a higher level, upgrade your job skillsor learn something new, our Higher Education courseswill provide you with many opportunitiesFoundation Degrees and HNDs are aimedat students who want to progress intheir careers or return to work aftera career break. If you alreadyhave A Levels or a Level 3qualification such as a Level 3BTEC Extended Diploma orNVQ, or have completed anAdvanced Apprenticeship,then a Foundation Degree/

HND is a good option for you. Typically a full-timeFoundation Degree/HND takes two years, covers six toseven modules per year and requires up to 16 hoursattendance per week at College. Please call Student

Services for fees for this year as they are subjectto change. Typically the fees will be

£6,000 for Foundation Degreesand £5,000 for HNDs.

There are a number ofgrants, loans and

bursaries that maybeavailable to studentsto help with the costof fees, materials,the cost of living andeven childcare.
