Album Advert Analysis

Page 2: Katy Perry Album Analysis

Katy Perry is represented quite feminine and youthful through many of the elements on the album advert. First of all, her outfit is girly and bright, she is in a pink crop top with patterns of lip stick stains and a cherry showing her youthful side – almost like a teenager and the colours are warm feminine colours. The setting also adds to the youthful and feminine theme as she is in a garden in front of a paddling pool suggesting she is still in touch with the childhood. The sky, grass, flowers and branches from trees gives Katy Perry a sense of freedom as she is outside with nature. Katy Perry is also holding a large heart shaped lolly pop, again showing her femininity and youth. The colours used in this album advert are all natural colours from the scenery, it gives a more comfortable feel. Her name is in a bright red font with a white outline to stand out so the audience can easily identify whose album is being advertised. The title of the album is in a pale blue to match the sky in the image. The name of the artist, the title and the setting is consistent in the advert and the actual album cover.

From the album advert the audience can clearly identify the genre as pop as the whole atmosphere is natural, light, and fun. As pop is often aimed at a youth market, the audience can easily identify that this album advert is of a pop genre through the props in the advert (heart shaped lollypop, paddling pool and rubber ducks). The advert promotes the album through the text “includes the #1 smash hit “I Kissed A Girl”” by highlighting the single the audience can then quickly recognise the single and then draw them in to buy the album. And the “#1 smash hit” again promotes the single in the actual album, then causing the audience’s expectations of the rest of the album to be just as good as the “#1 smash hit”. Through Katy Perry’s facial expression, with her with a serious face, this suggests that she is independent and promotes girl power.
