In Cody, Wyoming in a restaurant called The Cowboy Café I had to go to the bathroom. My mom went with me. When I finished going to the bathroom, when I was washing my hands I saw money on the floor. I thought it would be like ten dollars. It wasn’t.

I showed it to my mom and she said we needed to show someone who worked here. We took it to our waitress and she was surprised. She recorded our phone number and address so if no one claimed it, we would get it. After that my mom counted it. It was about $240. I was so excited. I found $240.

We left. A couple weeks later at our house we got mail from The Cowboy Café. On it, it said, "When I took the money back to the safe, I showed it to the cook. She said that she lost $640 in the bathroom and she thought she picked all of it up.” The envelope also said,” I forced her to give you a reward.” I looked in. It was $20. Even though I didn’t get the $200 I am happy I did the right thing.

Middle School Jitters

“Wake up, wake up!” Mom was yelling at me. It was the first day of middle school and I was not looking forward to it. “Charlotte, you’re as lazy as a sloth, come on, it’s time to get up!”

“Uggghhh, maybe in China, but here’s it’s only seven AM.” I rolled over and covered my face with the pillow.”

“It was when I came up here, now it’s 7:15.” She shook me like it would help. “All right, you made me, if you don’t get up right now, then I’m taking away all your clothes your clothes except the ones Grandma made you.”

I shot up out of my bed. “Good morning mother,” I said cheerfully. She smiled and walked out of my room. I started to lie back down, but as soon as my head hit the pillow, I heard my mom yell something about getting up right this instant. I sighed. I was going to have to get up eventually.

My clothes were lying on my bedside table. I had picked them out earlier because the first day of school outfit is always important. I had picked out a jean skirt from Aeropostale, a baby blue cardigan, a bright flowered tank top, and hot pink sandals also from Aeropostale. After I got dressed, I went into the bathroom to do my hair. Whoa. Had someone come in the middle of the night and switched my hair with Medusa’s? This needed some major help.

I dug into my emergency hair kit and pulled out my super-fast hair curler. It only took a minute to heat up. After it was done, I laid it against my hair and twirled it into a very precise ringlet. After I was finished curling my annoying brunette head, I trudged downstairs.

“I made some pancakes and a strawberry banana smoothie for you!” My mom was standing in front of me holding a cup of lumpy red stuff. Don’t get me wrong, I love my mom’s homemade smoothies, but today I wasn’t in the mood.

“I’m not that hungry right now.” I said wearily. Actually, I was feeling a bit nauseous.

“Are you nervous about middle school?”

“Yeah.” I didn’t want to go through the whole “everyone is, don’t worry, you’ll make lots new friends, blah, blah, blah.” I just want to get it over with.

“You need something to eat.” She went over to our spice cabinet, pulled out the cinnamon, and added some to the smoothie.

She handed me the smoothie, “As soon as you take a sip, you’ll feel better. The cinnamon will relieve the stress.” Oh really, I highly doubt cinnamon will make me feel better.

I took a sip, mmmm. It tasted like paradise, the faint taste of banana, and the sweet particles of strawberry floating around in my mouth. It was delicious. I took more, then more, each time a bigger gulp. Suddenly, I was feeling a little bit better. I gave my mom a hug, and then with the smoothie in my hand, I pushed on the door leaving my handprint on the glass and ran down the sidewalk. I couldn’t help but think that middle school wouldn’t be that bad.
