The 2010 world cup took place in South

Africa from the 11th June to the 11th July

2010. There were 32 participating Countries

and 10 stadiums that were used. In total, 64

matches were played and 145 goals scored

which would be about 2 goals per match. The

total attendance was 3 178 856 people which

was about 49 670 people per match. The top

scorers were Diego Forlan (who was also

the best player), Thomas Muller,

Wesley Sneijder and David Villa.

Participating Countries32 countries qualified for the world cup. There were 8 pools of 4 teams and only the top 2 teams in each pool went through to the playoffs.

After 6 weeks of eliminations and big upsets, only one team took the trophy home.

This newly built Stadium is also known as Cape town Stadium. The stadium can hold 66,005 people. Green Point Stadium was one of the two semi final venues

for the FIFA World Cup.

Also known as Durban Stadium. This is the stadium in the Area in which I live. We went to 3 pool games here.

Nicknamed “The Giraffe Stadium” because the 18 roof supports have been designed to look like the long necked Giraffes and the seating looks like the Zebras skin. My friend Tayla’s Uncle designed this Stadium.

Yellow - a symbol for the natural resources e.g. gold.White - peace and for the white people.Red - bravery, strength & respect for the bloodshed from the war with the Zulu’s.Blue – truth, loyalty and the open blue skies.Green - hope, joy and love and for the land.Black - the black population.The Green “Y” shape represents the two Races coming together as one.

• This noise making, plastic, brightly coloured trumpet became very popular to all football fans who could blow it. They can come in all shapes, sizes and colours.

Conclusion• South Africa hosted a very successful soccer

world cup and had many people come visit that had never been there before. All the schools got soccer fever and gave away soccer shirts and 5 weeks of no school. Every body started to love soccer and want to play it all the time. The whole of South Africa had changed and become a soccer fever country. Even the radio stations had a day set in which everyone would blow their vuvuzela’ s at 12:00 to see if the rest of the world could hear us. And every Friday, EVERYONE would wear a soccer shirt.
