2. Catherine, Duchess ofCambridge Catherine Elizabeth or just "Kate", ne Middleton was born on 9 January 1982. She is the wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Catherine grew up in Chapel Row at Bucklebury, a village near Newbury, Berkshire,England. 3. Early life and family She is the oldest of three children in their family.Her mother is Carol Goldsmith, a former flightattendant and now part-owner of Party Pieces andher father is Michael Middleton, who also workedas a flight attendant prior to becoming a flightdispatcher for British Airways, currently also anowner of Party Pieces. Her siblings are Pippa and James Middleton. Middletons parents were based in Amman,Jordan, working for British Airways from May1984, to September 1986, where she went to anEnglish language nursery school, before returningto their home in Berkshire. After her return from Amman, Middleton waseducated at St Andrews School near the village ofPangbourne in Berkshire, then briefly at DowneHouse. She continued her studies at MarlboroughCollege, a co-educational independent boardingschool in Wiltshire, followed by the University ofSt Andrews in Fife, Scotland where she met PrinceWilliam. She graduated with an undergraduateMA in the History of Art. 4. Middletons` family 5. Career In November 2006, Middleton accepteda position as an accessory buyer withthe clothing chain Jigsaw. She alsoworked part-time until January 2011 asa catalogue photographer, webpagedesigner and marketing officer for herparents firm "Party Pieces". 6. Public image and style Catherine is admired for her fashion sense and hasbeen placed on numerous "best dressed" lists. She wasselected by The Daily Telegraph as the "MostPromising Newcomer" in its 2006 list of style winnersand losers. Tatler placed her at number 8 on its yearly listing ofthe top ten style icons in 2007. She was featured in People magazines 2007 and 2010best-dressed lists. Middleton was named as one of Richard Blackwellsten "Fabulous Fashion Independents" of 2007. In June 2008, Style.com selected Middleton as itsmonthly beauty icon. In July 2008, Middleton was included in Vanity Fairsinternational best-dressed list. In February 2011, she was named the Top FashionBuzzword of the 2011 season by the Global LanguageMonitor. In January 2012, she was voted Headwear Person ofthe Year. 7. Engagement and wedding Prince William and Catherine Middletonbecame engaged in October 2010 in Kenya,East Africa. Clarence House announced the engagementon 16 November 2010. The couple married in Westminster Abbeyon 29 April 2011, (St. Catherines Day) withthe day declared a bank holiday in theUnited Kingdom. Estimates of the globalaudience for the wedding ranged around 300million or more, whilst 26 million watchedthe event live in the United Kingdom. In October, several months after thewedding, Commonwealth leaders approved achange in British royal succession law thatallows daughters of future monarchs to haveequal rights to the throne. 8. Popular culture Following international attention regarding thewedding, Lifetime aired a TV movie entitled William& Kate on 18 April 2011, in the US. The filmpremiered in the UK on 24 April 2011. Middletonwas played by Camilla Luddington and PrinceWilliam by Nico Evers-Swindell. TV programmes were also shown in the UK prior tothe wedding which provided deeper insights into thecouples relationship and backgrounds, includingWhen Kate Met William and Channel 4s Meet theMiddletons. A second TV Movie is also being produced thatcovers much the same ground as "William & Kate".That movie titled William & Catherine: A RoyalRomance stars Alice St. Clair as Kate Middleton andDan Amboyer as Prince William.According to TheHollywood Reporter the movie is scheduled to air 27August 2011 in the United States on the HallmarkChannel.
