Design Challenge: create a display system for the semester’s projects.

Retail Design | Flagship Accessory

Design Challenge: Design a Flagship Accessory Store in Toronto, Canada.

Embracing the concept of Geodes, this flagship store’s display walls are on a sliding track system that creates a cave-like, natural feel to the expe-rience based system. The design intends to bring customers back for a new spatial experience each time.

Project involved: programming, floor plans, two floors, elevations, sections, reflected ceiling plans, renderings

Design Intent: Program and Design the re-use of the Witherill Building in Syracuse, NY.

As a youth hostel and rentable green office space, TANGNT will encourage multi-corportate collaboration, help start-up businesses get on their feet, facilitate the use of liquid space for business purposes, and encourage the spread of sustainable practices. The future of the corporate and built world starts now.

Design Intent: Brand the establishment and Design the interiors

TANGNT’s spaces are all multifunctional. Every space in the liquid space hostel is multi-function-al, and can transition from day to night. Even the guest rooms have built in beds, desks, closets, and seating that can be pulled out for use or stored away for extra space.

Concept StatementThe Witherill Restaurant, Liquid Space, & Hostel will be a tensile establishment, in which the spaces and environments will be malleable, not only in appearance and design, but also in function. The guests will be provided with a kit of parts that allows them to stretch, to be molded, and to learn about themselves so they have the capability to expand in their own ways. first floor | front desk and lounge

Design Intent: Pop-up airport that can be put together by two people, withstand up to 60 mph winds, and have a lifetime of 30 weeks.

Mirage Aurora mimics its surrounding mountains, provides for easy re-arranging and lights up at night, fully embodying the Burningman spirit.

Cape Cod | Add-On Competition

The Swiss “Army” Box is compact toolfull living. While it maintains its basic shape, it can open inwards and outwards, to increase flow and create unique indoor-outdoor spaces.

This simple box contains multiple add-ons for each type of living space. The living room, bedroom and kitchen can each extend into the central space, allowing for maximum functionality because of the overlap of spaces.

The Swiss “Army” Box is constructed out of 2x wood framing with concrete floor slab and it has a green roof that collects and filters rain water for the use of the house. The exterior enclo-sure consists of fixed and moveable panels that allow for expansion outwards.

The tragic event of the Triangle Factory Fire has provided a legacy that still survives today. While signage, fire codes, labor laws, and improved working conditions are often taken for granted; they only came about at the cost of 146 lives. Most were immigrants and young women, and, in an effort to commemorate them, we propose that their names live permanently in a canopy to be viewed from the sidewalk of the Brown building. By day, light permeates the canopy and projects the names onto the surfaces below; while at night, warm artificial lighting illuminates them.

The slogan of the fire’s 50th anniversary, “THEY DID NOT DIE IN VAIN” embodies the idea that the victims of the fire will never be forgotten. The building stands as a silent witness to the devastating event, and our memorial on the façade reveals and pays homage to its past.

Shirtwaste Fire | Competition

Design Intent: Create a monument to the Triangle Shirt Waste Fire that includes all the names of the women who died.

The design features 3-D letters on the building facade that cast unique shadows during the day and are back-lit at night. A small overhang with stencils of the women’s names (left) is also in-cluded. The overhand is lit to cast shadows of the names of the women lost in the fire on the lower building facade and the sidewalk, making them more tangible for friends and family of those lost in the fire.
