Using Kaltura to Add Media: Screen Recording Kaltura is a media product built into Canvas that allows instructors and students to record videos from their webcam or of their computer screen and easily post them to Canvas. Below are instructions on how to use this tool. 1. Within the main My Media area inside Canvas navigation, click Add New dropdown menu and then Capture Space (highlighted in blue box below). 2. A new page will appear with a box asking you to download and install the screen recorder. Click that box. In this document we are focusing on screen recordings. To create a screen recording click the “Capture Space”. 3b. If this is your first time running the screen recording software, you might get a pop up message asking if Kaltura can run Java. Click allow to utilize this tool. Upon clicking allow, it might take up to 1 or 2 minutes to load the applet depending on your version of Java

3. ThenitwillaskifKaltura’ssoftwarecanbeused.

Clickrun.

4. Onceyouclickrun,ascreenwillappearinthelowerrightside.Thisisthecontrolpanel.Youhaveoptionstoselectfrom,choose“Screen”torecordthescreenonlyor“ScreenandWebcam”ifyouwouldliketoaddthevideoofyourself.

5. Tostarttherecording,clickontheScreenbutton.Choose“SelectArea”ifyouneedtoshootspecificareaofthescreenandclick“SelectArea”button.

6. Afterselectingtheareaonthescreenthe5secondscountdownwillstart,atthismomentbereadytovoiceoveryourproject.

7. WhilescreenrecordinginprogresswithintheselectedblueboxthereareoptionstoPause(byclickingAlt+P);Resume,whenreadytocontinuetherecording,andDrawanythingontheselectedscreenbox.

8. ClickDonewhenfinishedrecording,itwillsavetherecordingandshowapreviewvideopage.Onthat

pageclickDoneaswell.

9. OntherightlowersideofthescreenpaneenterthenameoftheprojectandclickUpload.Itwilltakefromfewsecondstofewminutesforthevideotogetuploaded.OnceitisreadytoviewgobacktoMyMediainCanvastoviewit.

10. Accessspecificcontentarea(page,discussion,assignment,etc.)inCanvas,clickEmbedKalturaMediaiconandontheMyMediapaneyouwillseeyourrecording.Toputitintheareayoupreviouslychose,click“select.”

11. ThemediashouldnowshowupinthetextboxwhereyouoriginallyclickedtheEmbedKalturaMedia.

Note!YouwillseeagrayboxinthetextboxfirstandwillbeabletoplaythemediaonlyafteryouclickSave.

12. ClicktheSavebuttonontheCanvaspage.
