58th Annual Luling Watermelon Thump
Summer is fast approaching and with it always comes that legendary
Texas festival, The Watermelon Thump. For 58 years, Luling
residents and visitors have celebrated the local harvest of
watermelons with a wide range of activities. The four day event,
which is always held the last Thursday through Sunday in June,
includes a carnival, dances, beer garden, watermelon eating contest,
watermelon seed spitting contest, food, arts and craft booths and
more. This year’s event takes place from June 23rd
through June
26th
. Thursday the 23rd
and Sunday the 26th
are free entry, Friday, the
24th
is $8 and Saturday, the 25th
, is $10. Advance tickets for both
Friday and Saturday night at $14 are available for purchase at the
Luling Area Chamber of Commerce. For more information on the

Luling Main Street Mission: We will utilize the Main Street 4-Point Approach guidelines of Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion to encourage
preservation, promote patronage of our downtown businesses and historic attractions, and to plan for our community’s positive economic growth.

the exceptional job in keeping all
events safe and peaceful.
2011 Luling Main Street Volunteer Appreciation Awards
Kevin Gibson accepted the award for the
Lease Crue, who helped tremendously at
the recent Rajun’ Cajun Throwdown.
Chris Powell accepted the award for the
Public Works employees for going above and
beyond to assist Main Street this past year.
John Bell accepted the certificate for
Buc-ees. They were a top sponsor
for Luling Main Street.
Lembo Allen accepted the certificate
for Lazy 8 Ranches. They were a top
