adding, Every wrestler rom Glasgow should bethere. Along with having kids coming in rom out otown, other high school coaches are coming in withtheir kids, he said, so there will be no shortage o
instruction. Something dierent or this year is a YouthCamp aimed at kids ages kindergarten-3rd grade.his camp will be held on Monday and uesday,August 8th & 9th, rom 9:00-10:30 each morning.Cost is $40 and includes a ree camp t-shirt. It wil lbe ocused on basic instruction. It will be interesting to see how the kidsrespond, Coach Casterline says o a bit dierentatmosphere than theyre used to.
he older kids, grades 4 through seniors, willhave the mats (three, possibly our mats will linethe Civic Center wall-to-wall!) rom 10:30-12:30and again rom 2:00-4:30 Sunday, Monday anduesday, August 7th, 8th & 9th. Cost is $100 perwrestler which includes a ree camp t-shirt. he big boys camp will ocus on techniqueollowed by all-out wrestling. And with the interestshown in attending the Scotty camp pouring inrom all directions, everyone there will have theopportunity to ace competition and perhaps some
dierent styles theyve never experienced beore.hese ormer Iowa guys now at Virginia ech
have a very aggressive sty le, Coach Casterline sayso Zadick and St. John. Its going to be an intensecamp. Not intensive, but intense. Since having Derek St. John here last year,Coach Casterline has stayed in contact with him, saying he is excited to make the return to Glasgowas he was so impressed at the tremendous turn-outor a wrestling camp in a town the size o Glasgow.
O course, easting on Eugenes Pizza on apontoon out in the middle o Fort Peck Reservoiron a most perect August evening probably didnthurt in luring St. John back. And it was St. Johnwho talked the Montana legend, Mike Zadick, intocoming with him. While its not cheap to put this high-caliberwrestling camp together, it should pay big dividendsas ar as the uture o Scotty wrestling is concerned. Were going to pipeline the Virginia echprogram here, said Coach Casterline.
Derek St. John serves as the volunteer Director ofWrestling Operations for the Hokies. He comes toVirginia Tech after one season as an assistant coach atNorth Dakota State. The 2013 NCAA champion at 157pounds, he became the 18th four-time All-American inIowa history in 2014. He placed fourth at the NCAAChampionships as a freshman, second as a sophomorerst as a junior and fth as a senior, claiming his spot
as one of the most decorated Hawkeye wrestlersin history. The Parnell, Iowa, native concluded hiscollegiate career with a record of 106-17. St. John was
the 2012 Big Ten champion and a two-time Big Tenrunner-up at 157 pounds. He posted a record of 31-2in his national championship campaign of 2012-13earning Iowas Mike Howard Most Valuable Wrestler
