Mike BatesoleHead Coach (9th Year)(Cal State Fullerton ’90)Overall Record: 587-392-1

Fresno State baseball coach Mike Batesole enters his ninth year at the helm of Bulldog baseball. In 2010, Batesole and the Bulldogs captured their fifth consecutive WAC title.

In 2009 and the ‘Dogs brought back a little magic from the ’08 season and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the 32nd time in Fresno State history. Batesole and the Bulldogs are one of only four teams in the Western Region to make four-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

He has also guided Fresno State to its first NCAA National title in 2008 and earned four National Coach of the Year honors from: Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, American Baseball Coaches Association, FieldTurf and the National College Baseball Writers Association.

In all, the Bulldogs have had 32 players drafted, 51 All-WAC selections, 44 Academic All-WAC selections, six All-Americans and five Freshman All-Americans under Batesole’s watch.

Batesole continues to keep the program’s talent level high both entering and exiting the program. The Bulldogs have had 18 players drafted in the top 20 rounds in the last five years, including at least three each year, which is the most since 1990.

Batesole has also stocked the current program with talent, bringing four top 20 recruiting classes to Fresno.

The Fresno State program continues to grow academically under Batesole. The ‘Dogs had 10 players earn Academic All-WAC honors in 2010 and overall 45 Bulldogs have earned Academic All-WAC honors under Batesole. The Dogs also had an annual Academic Progress Rate of 990 out of 1000 for the past year and their multi-year rate is 977. Of the last 21 seniors, all have graduated or are within one semester of graduation.

Every returning player in the program has won a conference championship every year they have been in the program. The Bulldogs have won the last five conference titles, made four NCAA appearances, made it to the regional title game three of the last five years and earned a National Championship in 2008.

A major reason Batesole has been one of the most successful coaches in the nation comes from the lessons he learned on the field as a professional and All-American player. As a hard-hitting third baseman, Batesole spent four seasons playing professionally in the Los Angeles Dodgers farm system from 1985-88. He was named to the Florida State League All-Star team in 1987 and played for the Dodgers’ Double-A team in San Antonio, Texas in 1988.
