The questions are: “Will the summer weather ever get here?” “When will the ferry ever open?” Mother nature hasn’t been treating us too kindly this year. But, before we know it the skies will clear, the sun will shine and we will say “Is it hot enough for you?” Only in Lytton!
The summer months are always busy with gatherings, celebrations and special events. Such as; graduations, student recognition, aboriginal day, annual pool/battlefield fundraiser, Lytton Ambassador coronation ceremony, healing gathering, BC ambassador ceremony, movies under the stars, day camps for the youth, student summer employment, elders gathering. Who says there’s nothing to do in Lytton?
Graduations and Student Recognition: Congratulations to all the graduates you have reached one milestone in your education journey and have many more to come. Thank you to Gladys Grenier and her education team for hosting an amazing recognition night once again. And to Merika Sam who did an incredible job being the MC. At the celebration we honoured Bev Phillips and Freda Adams for their outstanding dedication
and commitment to education. Both Bev and Freda will be taking a well deserved rest from working. Thank you to you both for all you have done to make a difference for our students.Annual Pool/Battlefield fundraiser: Although it wasn’t possible for me to attend this year lets take our hats off to the community of Lytton for making this annual fundraiser a huge success. We surpassed last years total amount raised $ 3442.45. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make this possible. We would also like to Thank “Das” from City Furniture for cost sharing with LFN first Prize in the raffle the 50” colour TV which was won by Jim F. Brown, and also SVNS for donating the blueray DVD player that was won by Nonie Yamelst.
Lytton Ambassador Coronation Ceremony: We will be bidding farewell to this years team Brant Webster, Patricia McDonald, Amanda Spinks, Dylan Phillips. The team has done an amazing job representing the community of Lytton. I am proud of your accomplishments. We will also welcome a new team as the candidates prepare to showcase their talents on July 22nd and July 23rd Each candidate has been working very hard to prepare for the event and I encourage the community to come out and support the youth of our community.
BC Ambassador Coronation Ceremony: August 12th and 13th in Merritt, BC: This year Lytton has one candidate Andrew Phillips. All the best to Andrew as he prepares for the competition. Andrew also has an opportunity to win the People’s Choice Award. You can vote on line at www.bcambassador.com once there select people’s choice award, scroll down and make your select, hit vote and your done. This doesn’t work on the internet explorer web browser you will need to download the Mozilla Firefox web browser. You can vote everyday right up to show time. Let’s rally for Andrew ask your family and friends to vote.
Summer time for students: Day Camp: Once again this year together with the RCMP, LFN and Kumsheen Rafting day camps were planned for various age groups. Thank you to Brenda Munro for all your help with these day camps.

Student Employment: Each year Gladys Grenier and Karen Dunstan apply for summer student employment funding. We have been fortunate to always receive approval. With this 9 students were able to work over the summer to gain some valuable work experience within various departments. Thank you Glady and Karen for giving our students an opportunity.
Movies under the Stars: Thank you to Bobby Jumbo, Cheryl Jumbo and Cheyenna Hanna for this wonderful idea to have movies under the stars for the families to enjoy. We just need to ask mother nature to be more kind to us on movie nights.
Elders Gathering Abbottsford BC – Thankyou to the LFN Health Staff for working so hard fundraising and organizing the trip for the elders. I have heard many positive comments already about the event. I am happy that our elders have this opportunity each year to visit with family and friends from other nations. I also know that Amy Charlie was shaking her booty and showing everyone how its done on the dance floor. Way to go Amy!
LFN staffing changes: Finance Department – The finance managers position was posted and Bobby Jumbo was the successful applicant for the job. Congratulations Bobby. Bobby starts in his new position on July 18th. Thank you also goes out to Caroline Sam for taking on the responsibility over the last 2 years and also going above and beyond with assisting with the Housing department finances and the hotspot finance bookkeeping.
Social Development Finance Managers position has been posted and the closing date is July 15th. We hope to have this position filled as quickly as possible.
Housing Finance and Hotspot Bookkeeper positions have also been posted. And once again we hope to have these positions filled as quickly as possible. In the meantime Christine Brown is assisting with the administrative
matters within the housing program Thank-you Christine.
Congratulations to Misty Brown and the proud Grandparents on the birth of Matilda Irene. A welcome addition to our nation and to Jim and Christine’s nest.
Congratulations to Keisha Abbott on the birth of her baby girl, Peyton.

Harvesting and Nutrition
Harvesting: it is that time of year when we have an abundance of berries and fruits. Harvesting berries by canning, freezing, drying. Children will benefit from these during the winter months. They could use the fruit for smoothies. They will get the nutrition’s they need for growing. They will learn to eat healthier and live healthier.
Harvesting: Fishing is another excellent food. It is recommended that we have two servings
of fish a week. We can preserve fish by, canning, freezing, drying.
Happy fishing!!!!
Summer Safety
Summer Safety: This summer is one of the hottest summers since the 1980’s. So don’t forget to slap on the sunscreen. Wear a hat and sunglasses.
Children: Children need to stay hydrated during the summer months. Water is the best!
Water: Swimming and Boating are the top two summer accidents, stay safe by watching children when swimming, Wear a lifejacket when boating, (set an example for your children). Check the pool at home before your child enters sometimes the hot sun can make the pool hot, (This has happened!)
Enjoy the rest of your summer!

My oh my it is almost end of July and it seem like fall weather the river is high and the ferry is out of commission it only makes it that much harder for the members on the Westside for any things. Flexibility...change is never easy, but always possible. It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.
The elders held a raffle with many prizes donated from LFN health staff, Brandon Joe Penny Charlie, Late Jenny Webster, Late Jan Renz. Thanks to Carol Charlie who sold 10 books of tickets for us what a great job, and to all the other ticket sellers great job as well. The raffle raised $761.13imagine that 13 cents for our great thoughts.
Dakey Adams won the painted hand drum, Air-Bear Abbot won the duvet blanket, Edna Frank won a queen blanket, Winnie Spinks won a printed designed purse, Margaret Heidtke won a digital photo frame, Rosie Williams won a knitted baby blanket, Dean Palegram won a beaded lighter case, Destiny Sam won a dream catcher, Thor won a beaded lighter case.
I wish all the elders a great time on there trip and a safe happy few days
Congratulations to all the grads of 2011 the future belong to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, the sky is the limit on any of your dreams reach for it and don't stop
learning for it is only up to you to make it happen proud of all of you keep on the educational track be safe in life.
A phrase from Dale Carnegie - - You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness now. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciations to someone who is lonely or discouraged. Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a life time.
Enjoy your summer with your family, babies, children, grandchildren and most of all enjoy yourself take time for you. Have fun in your gardens, in your pool, when you have BBQ's, don't forget to use SUN PROTECTION, use a hat you know...
