BFA wants to thank the 2,323 donors between $5 – $249, and 1,427 individuals who donated books in fiscal year 2014. BFA apologizes for any errors or unintended omissions. Please contact BFA if your name was misprinted or omitted. Dear Friends, We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for another outstanding year. 2014 was our biggest year ever, with more books shipped to Africa and more funds raised than ever before! We are pleased to share with you some of what we achieved in 2014: We shipped books by the ton (yet again): BFA continues as the world’s largest shipper of donated books to Africa, shipping over 32 million books to 49 African countries in our 26-year history. This has garnered us top ratings yet again from Charity Navigator (which rated BFA the top U.S. charity under the Humanitarian Aid Category), as well as Guidestar and the Minnesota Charities Review Council. In 2014 alone, we shipped 2.6 million books and 239 computers valued at over $35 million to 27 countries. This represented a stunning 70% increase in books shipped over the previous year; We are becoming kind of a big deal: BFA is on its way (we hope!) to becoming a household name. We are securing new donors every day from across the world. We hosted some 13,000 volunteers who helped pack books (we are one of the top volunteer sites in Atlanta, GA). Our booksforafrica.org website hosts over 10,000 visits monthly, and we have over 7,000 Facebook likes; We are meeting the right people: We hosted a Summit Society donor reception at the Washington, D.C. residence of South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool in May. Her Excellency Liberata Mulamula, Tanzanian Ambassador to the U.S., served as keynote speaker for our annual May luncheon in St. Paul, MN, followed by a “Doing Business in Africa” event, co-hosted with Thomson Reuters and the Minnesota Trade Office. In June and October, special fundraising events were held in Atlanta, GA. Our annual summer Kilimanjaro Society reception was held at the Historic Alfred Pillsbury Home in Minneapolis with 25 of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative members as guests of honor. Finally, our annual braai (South African barbeque) was bigger and better than ever with our very own BFA Warehouse Band providing rocking entertainment; We are meeting even more of the right people!: In November, on a routine swing through Washington, D. C., we met with The National Press Club, the Library of Congress, the U.S. State Department, USAID, National Geographic, the Egyptian Ambassador to the U.S., and the Embassy of Portugal. These meetings represent new and unique partnership opportunities and demonstrate the level to which our new collaborations are taking us; We executed big plans: We finalized a $600,000 project with the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation of Nigeria to ship one million books to 18 African countries. We are well on our way to shipping 660,000 books to Uganda as part of a $487,000 project in collaboration with USAID. More plans of this size and scope are in the works; Parlez-vous Francais? We shipped French language books from Paris to Senegal in June and to Guinea in October, demonstrating that books are our business, in any language deemed useful in Africa. A Portugese book project is also in the works; We advanced the rule of law: In our sixth year of the Jack Mason Law and Democracy Initiative, we shipped 11 law and human rights libraries to Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Liberia, Cameroon, Ethiopia, The Gambia, and Uganda. This initiative, sponsored in large part by Thomson Reuters, has served law schools, universities, parliaments, and human rights groups in 16 countries across Africa, with 54 total libraries shipped. In 2014 we have strived to take things to a new level in order to end the book famine in Africa. Thanks to your support, the children of Africa will be able to pursue their dreams and lead their continent. This was the dream of Nelson Mandela, who stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” It is our dream — and we know it is yours as well. Sincerely, Rosemond Sarpong Owens Patrick J. Plonski, PhD President Executive Director Individuals Combined Federal Campaign 10718

*Denotes donations from large numbers of donors

**Legacy Society members have included Books For Africa in their estate planning

Due to limits on space in this report, we were unable to list all donors. BFA wants to thank the 2,323 donors between $5 – $249, and 1,427 individuals who donated books in fiscal year 2014. BFA apologizes for any errors or unintended omissions. Please contact BFA if your name was misprinted or omitted.

Dear Friends,

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for another outstanding year. 2014 was our biggest year ever, with more books shipped to Africa and more funds raised than ever before! We are pleased to share with you some of what we achieved in 2014:

• We shipped books by the ton (yet again): BFA continues as the world ’s largest shipper of donated books to Africa, shipping over 32 million books to 49 African countries in our 26-year history. This has garnered us top ratings yet again from Charity Navigator (which rated BFA the top U.S. charity under the Humanitarian Aid Category), as well as Guidestar and the Minnesota Charities Review Council. In 2014 alone, we shipped 2.6 million books and 239 computers valued at over $35 million to 27 countries. This represented a stunning 70% increase in books shipped over the previous year;

• We are becoming kind of a big deal: BFA is on its way (we hope!) to becoming a household name. We are securing new donors every day from across the world. We hosted some 13,000 volunteers who helped pack books (we are one of the top volunteer sites in Atlanta, GA). Our booksforafrica.org website hosts over 10,000 visits monthly, and we have over 7,000 Facebook likes;

• We are meeting the right people: We hosted a Summit Society donor reception at the Washington, D.C. residence of South African Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool in May. Her Excellency Liberata Mulamula, Tanzanian Ambassador to the U.S., served as keynote speaker for our annual May luncheon in St. Paul, MN, followed by a “Doing Business in Africa” event, co-hosted with Thomson Reuters and the Minnesota Trade Office. In June and October, special fundraising events were held in Atlanta, GA. Our annual summer Kilimanjaro Society reception was held at the Historic Alfred Pillsbury Home in Minneapolis with 25 of President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative members as guests of honor. Finally, our annual braai (South African barbeque) was bigger and better than ever with our very own BFA Warehouse Band providing rocking entertainment;

• We are meeting even more of the right people!: In November, on a routine swing through Washington, D. C., we met with The National Press Club, the Library of Congress, the U.S. State Department, USAID, National Geographic, the Egyptian Ambassador to the U.S., and the Embassy of Portugal. These meetings represent new and unique partnership opportunities and demonstrate the level to which our new collaborations are taking us;

• We executed big plans: We finalized a $600,000 project with the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation of Nigeria to ship one million books to 18 African countries. We are well on our way to shipping 660,000 books to Uganda as part of a $487,000 project in collaboration with USAID. More plans of this size and scope are in the works;

• Parlez-vous Francais? We shipped French language books from Paris to Senegal in June and to Guinea in October, demonstrating that books are our business, in any language deemed useful in Africa. A Portugese book project is also in the works;

• We advanced the rule of law: In our sixth year of the Jack Mason Law and Democracy Initiative, we shipped 11 law and human rights libraries to Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Liberia, Cameroon, Ethiopia, The Gambia, and Uganda.

Sincerely,

Rosemond Sarpong Owens Patrick J. Plonski, PhD President Executive Director
