Epistle

Acts of the Apostles 8. 14-17 N diébus illis: Cum audíssent Apóstoli, qui erant Ierosólymis, quod

In those days, when the apostles who  were in Jerusalem had heard thatSamaria had received the word of God,they sent unto them Peter and John:  who when they were come, prayed forthem, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: for He was not as yet comeupon any of them, but they were only baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  Then they laid their hands upon them, and they received the Holy Ghost.

Gospel

John 14: 23-31N illo témpore: Dixit Iesus discípulissuis: Si quis díligit me, sermónem

Pacem relínquo vobis, pacem meam do vobis: non quómodomundus dat, ego do vobis.

At that time Jesus said to His disciplesIf any one love Me, he will keep My  word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and will make Our

abode in him: he that loveth Me notkeepeth not My words. And the word which you have heard is not Mine; butthe Father’s who sent Me. These thingshave I spoken to you, abiding with you.But the Paraclete, the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name,He will teach you all things, and bring

all things to your mind, whatsoever Ishall have said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: notas the world giveth, do I give unto you.Let not your heart be troubled, nor let itbe afraid. You have heard that I said toyou: I go away, and I come unto you. If you loved Me, you would indeed beglad, because I go to the Father: for the

Father is greater than I. And now I havetold you before it come to pass: that when it shall come to pass you may be-lieve. I will not now speak many things  with you. For the prince of this worldcometh, and in Me he hath not any thing. But that the world may know thatI love the Father, and as the Father hath

given Me commandment so do I.

Iubilate Deo – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

DORO te devote, latens Deitas,Quæ sub his figuris vere latitas;

Credo quidquid dixit Dei Filius;Nil hoc verbo veritátis verius.

Hidden God, devoutly I adore Thee, Truly present underneath these veils: All my heart subdues itself before Thee,Since it all before Thee faints and fails.

Not to sight, or taste, or touch be credit,Hearing only do we trust secure;I believe, for God the Son has said it—  Word of Truth that ever shall endure.

In cruce latebat sola Deitas, At hic latet simul et Humanitas, Ambo tamen credens atque

confitens,Peto quod petivit latro pœnitens.

Plagas, sicut Thomas, non intueor:Deum tamen meum te confiteor.Fac me tibi semper magis credere,In te spem habere, te diligere.

O memoriale mortis Domini!

Pie Pelicane, Iesu Domine,Me immundum munda tuo sanguine:Cuius una stilla salvum facere Totum mundum quit ab omni

scelere.

Iesu, quem velatum nunc aspicio,Oro, fiat illud quod tam sitio:Ut te revelata cernens facie, Visu sim beátus tuæ gloriæ. Amen

St Thomas Aquinas

On the Cross was veiled Thy Godhead'ssplendor,Here Thy Manhood lieth hidden too;Unto both alike my faith I render, And, as sued the contrite thief, I sue.

Though I look not on Thy wounds with Thomas, Thee, my Lord, and Thee, my God, Icall:Make me more and more believe Thy promise,Hope in Thee, and love Thee over all.

O Memorial of My Saviour dying,Living Bread, that givest life to man;May my soul, its life from Thee supply-ing, Taste Thy sweetness, as on earth it can.

Deign, O Jesus, Pelican of heaven,Me, a sinner, in Thy Blood to lave,

To a single drop of which is given All the world from all its sin to save.

Contemplating, Lord, Thy hidden pres-ence,Grant me what I thirst for and implore,In the revelation of Thy essence To behold Thy glory evermore.

heméntis, ubi erant sedéntes: et replétisunt omnes Spíritu Sancto, loquéntes

Suddenly there came a sound fromheaven, as of a mighty wind coming (and it filled the house) where they weresitting; and they were all filled with the

Holy Ghost, speaking the wonderful works of God.
