Abstract In Unani System of Medicine, Diabetes has been mentioned as Ziabetus Sukari. It is
estimated that around 2−4% of the world population is suffering from this disease. In
India, the prevalence is about 40.9 million and it is expected to be 69.6 million by 2025. It
is due to weakness of kidneys, dilatation of orifices of vessels of the kidneys, Sue Mizaj
Haar Kuliya (Ill temperament of kidney), Burudat Kuliya (Coldness of the kidneys), Qawi Quwat-e-Jaziba (Strong expulsive power) and Kamzor Quwate Masika (Weakness of
retentive power). Herbal medicines having the temperament of cold and wet, having the properties of tonic to the liver and kidneys would be more beneficial. This review focuses
on preclinical and clinical trials on herbs used in the treatment of diabetes in various
approaches to reduce the ill effects of diabetes and its secondary complications.

Histopathology in Ayurveda
Nishant Shukla* Department of Kayachikitsa, Dhanvantari Mandir, Shri Gulabkunverba Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya,
Gujarat Ayurved University, P N Marg, Jamnagar, Gujarat, India
Abstract It is believed that ayurvedic pathogenesis is based on humeral changes, and changes in
tissues are not dealt. This limits the understanding of disease ayurvedically and its man-
agement. A morbid condition occurs due to humeral change, but disease always occurs after changes in tissues. Histopathological basis of disease in ayurvedic science is de-
scribed by Acharya Charaka, morbid body humors imparts their morbid changes on tis-
sues and produce similar changes in them. This is important to study for management of
disease as Acharya Charaka opines that Dhatu Samyam or Prakruti Sthapana is predes-
tined in managing any disease, failing to that make the disease to run in chronic course. Here an attempt has been made to illustrate histopathological basis of disease.

Homeopathy: The Evidence and Basis of
Physiological Medicine
Mukesh Batra* Founder and Chairman Dr. Batra’s, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Abstract It is time we looked at a fresh, new scientific model for homeopathic remedy action on
living systems — one that is logically and rationally based. A paradigm that explains why
homeopathy is scientifically “plausible” and how homeopathic remedies exert their biological effects primarily as nanostructures and why physiology, not pharmacology, is
the most appropriate discipline for studying and validating the credo. This is imperative
to bring two sequels to the forefront too — one, to collate and corroborate a large body of previously ignored, interdisciplinary evidence that health researchers might not,
otherwise, use to understand homeopathic remedies, and two to “pitchfork” homeopathy for wider acceptance within the portals of healing — be it traditional, conventional and
integrative medicine.

Abstract Sri Lanka has a long history of traditional health practices. Traditional health remedies
are especially aimed to uplift the health profile of women. This indigenous traditional
knowledge has been transmitted verbally for centuries. It is being wiped out from the society due to the advent of modern technology and transformation of traditional culture.
This paper aims to document the existing system of traditional knowledge and utility pattern of medicinal plants related to postnatal care. There are many time-tested
practices those suit the health problems of postnatal women. “Paththiya Kari” is an
effective curry commonly used after delivery in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. This Kari contains nettali meen (sprat) or sura meen (shark), milaku (pepper), asamodagam
(carom seeds), venthayam (fenu greek), vengayam (onion), manchal thool (turmeric
powder), poondu (garlic), kottamalli (coriander), curry veppailai (curry leaves) and uppu (salt). This information was collected from 12 elderly women who were over 65 years of
age and they have experience of using this “Paththiya Kari” throughout generations with traditional medical knowledge from various rural area of Eastern province. So there is a
need to document this precious knowledge to validate its therapeutic as well as medicinal
values scientifically.

2Department of Panchkarma, M.J.F. Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India
Abstract Hypertension has become a public health problem worldwide. This is the most prevalent cause for cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disorders, causing high rate of mortality
and morbidity. In this disease, Vata is playing a prime role. Other Doshas are also
accompanied with this Dosha. For Vata Vyadhi, Mridu Snehan, Mridu Swedan and Mridu Virechan is the treatment as indicated in ancient classical text of Ayurveda. These can be
done simultaneously with Shalishastic Pinda Swedan. Sarpagandhaghan Vati is
commonly used in Ayurveda for the treatment of hypertension. In this study, the selected patients of hypertension were randomly placed in three groups of 15 patients in each
group. In group A, Shalishastic Pinda Swedan was administered for 30 days. In group B,
Sarpagandhaghan Vati (500 mg) was orally administered both time in a day for 30days
and in group C combined regime of Shalishastic Pinda Swedan and Sarpagandhaghan
Vati were administered for 30days. In all the groups, significant results were found. It was found that treatment with Shalishastic Pinda Swedan was more effective than oral
Sarpagandhaghan Vati treatment. Combined treatment with Shalishastic Pinda Swedan
and Sarpagandhaghan Vati was most effective in all the signs and symptoms. This was due to their synergistic effect. These therapies can be used in every patients of
hypertension without any side effect.

Abstract Ayurveda – the science of life describes about various food items, food processing
techniques and food consumption methodologies. Benincasa hispida (Kushmanda) is one among this, which is having various medicinal properties. The present study was
designed to examine the acute toxicity of Benincasa hispida. Fresh juice of Benincasa
hispida was prepared and used for study. The acute toxicity study was carried out as per Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) guideline 425, in
female Swiss mice weighing 25 to 30 gm. The maximum dose of 5000 mg/kg was
administered orally in the form of juice. The groups were almost continuously observed for mortality and behavioral changes during first 24 hours and then daily for fortnight.
The observations of changes in body weight, food and water intake as well as cage side observations were reported. There were no abnormalities observed in any of these
animals. The results provide evidence that Benincasa hispida fruit juice was found to be
nontoxic up to 5000 mg/kg dose.

Diet and Dietetics: Ayurvedic View
Priyadarshini Tewari* Department of Vikriti Vigyan, Faculty of Ayurveda, IMS, BHU, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India
Abstract Lot of emphasis is being given on diet in Ayurvedic system of medicine. It is given
importance as one of the three ‘Upasthambhas’ or supporting pillars of life, i.e., Ahara(Diet), Nidra (Sleep) and Bramhacharya (Control of sexual sense). In ancient
Indian scriptures, food is compared to God (Anna purna Brahma) as it is the most essential factor which sustains life, nourishes the body tissue, maintains physical
strength, improves complexion of skin and gives vigor and vitality to life. When the diet is
consumed in accordance with body constitution, Agni (Digestive fire) status, wholesomeness and considering the quality & quantity of food then sound health is
maintained and when faulty diet is consumed responsible for disease development.
Inherent qualities (Rasa, guna, virya, vipaka and prabhava) are possessed by the dietary items which either pacify the vitiated doshas and restore health, or aggravate the doshas
causing imbalance in their equilibrium resulting disease. The diet you eat affects physical & mental health as well. Hence one should be very conscious about dietary intake
according to the dietetic rules for maintenance of good physical and mental health, better
immunity, beauty and long life. The various aspects about the importance of diet and the dietetics mentioned in Ayurved are discussed in this paper.

2Department of WCSC-Vision for Wisdom (Academy), Aliyar, Tamilnadu, India
Abstract Kayakalpa Yoga is the rejuvenating technique which was discovered by our ancient
Indian siddhars and lost during the course of time. This was once again brought back by
our swamiji in an easily understandable way. KAYA - BODY AND KALPA - IMMORTAL. Vethathiri maharishi a qualified physician of indigenous medicine has
developed kayakalpa yoga is a complete science which integrates physics, biology, physiology, philosophy, genetics and yoga. This philosophy of kayakalpa yoga delineates
the manner in which the human being can be enhanced by proper integration of physical
body, mind, bio-magnetism ,life force ,sexual vital fluid. Swamiji vethathiri maharishi founded the simplified kundalini yoga for the benefit of humanity, and he recommended
the kaya kalpa technique and simplified physical exercises (Maharasana) for better
health. Diabetes will create an additional financial and social burden on the public health sector. Literature reviews revealed that exercises help to reduce the blood sugar
level and high blood pressure. Maharasana is a simplified physical exercise given by our vethathiri maharishi for tonning up the whole body and to strengthen our mind. Hence,
yogic exercises may be useful to combat various diseases. The purpose and aim of this
study were to assess and reduce the signs and symptoms of type II diabetes i.e., BP, and HbA1C, blood glucose levels, among diabetic patients through a 12 week VETHATHIRI
MAHARISHI`S kaya kalpa technique and simplified physical exercises (maharasana) program. The findings conclude that this vethathiri maharishi yoga program could
potentially be a reduction option for hyperglycemia on type 2 diabetes patients and many
patients reported a feeling of well being, more relaxed and satisfied, and a sense of relief from anxiety.
