BA Architecture Part 1. (2.2) Northumbria Uni

2013 - 2016

Employment

- Pizza express - Chef - Aug 2015 - Aug 2016

- Rayner davies Architects - Work experience - Aug 2013 - Sep 2013 - KFC - Chef - 2012 - 2013

Having graduated in architecture from northumbria university in jul 2016, i am looking for hands on work that can increase my skills and knowledge in the design and construction sectors.

Gaining skills in product design gave me the foundations of design that started me sketching and envisioning what design can do.

Working in the hospitality sector as a chef gave me hands on people skills and taught me to cope under high pressure conditions. This and other attributes has given me great knowledge of the working world that i can use to generate a positive working outlook to any job that i do.

Travelling to different places around the world and living in different areas of the uk has given me a different perspective of what architecture and design means to people on a social level to increase a better community based outlook on life that can help any place to thrive no matter where it is.

The stargaizing

cafe

The cafe is delicately tucked away in the heart of

newcastle city centre. The cafe offers a beautiful setting

to relax and enjoy hot beverages with a glorious views of the sky.

Community based projects were set up to encourage local astronomy lovers to

connect to their passion, Roof top area gives teaching and learning space with

large telescope to expand the users look on the universe.

The brutal concstructavist style is based from the russian owners love of the style from

his home land. This modernist geometric style epresses the sky with roof lights and tall spaces

that taper upwards.

Seaton Delaval Gate house

Seaton Delavals gatehouse is the key to the entrance of the grand house. Sinking into the existing walled garden, it quitely directs users to the different sections of the grounds. The centre directional axis uses the rotunder from the derilict brewry to cantilever the gate house roof imitating a floating roof. The circular nature surrounded by geometric walls centrs the building walled garden directing user into the modern day japenese syled sensory garden contained in the victorian walls.

The landscape was designed around the building to cohere to seatons surroundings with new additions to engage the user into Seatons history.

Celestial Towers

Druridge bay is crowned by the 5

towers that make up celestial towers,

they highlight areas of natural inerest and

beauty that guide the user between the points.

Each tower offers an insight into the past with educational

opertunities and guides to learn more. The 5th tower holmes

the observsatory of NASTRO which offers a guide to astromonomy and

a beacon of northumberland dark sky parks. The overnight cabins and youth

hostel allow all ages to attend and stay over to fully emerse themsleves in

the night sky.

A l l of the

buildings a r e

constructed from gabions,

glazing and h e m p c r e t e .

this allows transparency, light

and most importantly warmth in harsh

conditions. sinking the buildings into

the landscape provides protection from the harsh

costal conditions and extruding the beacons to the sky

petrudes them in the landscape giving direction between each

point.

Young Literature + Philosophical Music Library

The new centre offers to package the music collection already at The L+P into a new builidng of its own. incorperating aspects that will celebrate the musical history of newcastle and allow the general public chance to forward there knowledge of music in new exciting ways.

industrial/constructavist style mimicks the methodology of newcaslte in a modernist way. city links are updated which connect users quickly and further with direct connection to railway links.

I created a full

t e c h n i c a l report that

would allow anyone to know

the technical information of

the building. The library had to be

acoustically sound due to the musical nature

of the building, this meant that the connections

of the junctions had to be stringently designed to

make sure that sound would be controlled in the building.

Ty-Hir 0.2 (Competition)

The thatch and wood cabin incorporates traditional welsh materials to create a one bedroom self sufficient glamping pod. The cabins design draws inspiration from the welsh vernacular architecture of the countries long barn houses. The regular shape of the low pitched roofs and large barn doors of the Ty-Hir houses have been manipulated to create a modern take on this iconic architectural style. The thatched roofs typical of welsh country housing has been redesigned to give extra thermal comfort within the cabin by placing the thatching on both the roof and external walls.Welsh larch has been chosen as the primary material, used for both the internal structure and the cladding, due of the locality of the material, ease of construction and quality of ageing. As the cabin weathers the larch will slowly become grey in colour. visitors to gaze into the surrounding landscape and the skys above. The cabin works on an open plan japenese feel with low katatsu table and cushions as the seating area. The cabin bosts many views with large skylight and side windows. THe cabin is totally self sufficient with solar panel and water collection system.
