Objective: To gain a position in a process development setting where I can leverage my experience in synthetic chemistry, particle treatments, and modeling to effectively provide support for high impact projects from lab scale to final production.
Related ExperienceLaboratory
Industrial synthetic chemistry experience at the lab scale with a focus on particle synthesis and treatment. A strong focus on heteroatom chemistry for novel surface treatments (Si, N, P).
Synthetic experience in polymer synthesis for the incorporation of reactive end groups and polymers with strongly adsorbing moieties.
Method development and organization of large scale studies on the effects of various particle morphologies and treatments on rheology and curing properties of various polymeric systems.
Research Currently employed as a Senior Research Associate in a process development group exploring novel surface treatment and particle
synthesis techniques for next generation materials and process improvements for existing product lines. Worked as part of a research team to develop new metal-organic framework compounds with novel properties at Worcester
Polytechnic Institute. This research was pursued with the goal of producing new compounds with high porosity and surface areas. Responsibilities focused on synthesis and preparation of ligands for use in developing molecular networks with desired properties.
Special Equipment Hands on experience with the techniques and methods needed to collect and interpret common analytical techniques including
GC/MS, LC/MS, GPC, TGA/DSC, NMR, SEM, and powder XRD. Extensive collaboration on the collection and interpretation of heteroatom NMR spectroscopy using a wide range of techniques.
Developed several microcontroller based systems for work at Cabot Corporation and for high powered rocketry applications. These include an automated system to control a high vacuum apparatus for analytical tests, and a robust heating controller and measurement suite designed to support engine testing for high powered rocketry applications on an extremely limited budget.
Programming experience in C++, Python, Matlab, and the Arduino IDE. Experience operating and interpreting images collected at the nanometer scale using Atomic Force Microscopy.
Work HistoryCabot Corporation; Billerica, MA Sept. 2011 – PresentSenior Research Associate – Process Development
Involved in several high impact process development projects exploring scale up of new products and conversion to continuous processes for existing product lines.
Senior Research Associate – Performance Materials Providing lab support for directed research toward next generation products in our Fumed Metal Oxide and Specialty Carbon Blacks
divisions. Typical duties include synthesis of novel particle treatment agents and application of these treatments at the lab and pilot scale.
Research Associate – Analytical Chemistry Worked closely with global plant locations to provide critical data for compliance and R&D purposes on a wide range of CTQ’s
including surface chemistry, particle size, and treatment efficiencies. Designed and realized fully automated system for safe control of equipment in our Very Hazardous Operations program.
WPI Department of Chemistry; Worcester, MA Summer 2011 Student Researcher
Developing new metal-organic framework compounds with novel properties. Responsibilities include synthesis of novel crown ether containing ligands for generation of metal organic frameworks with tunable porosity and surface areas as well as characterization of previously described systems.
