EARLY CHILDHOOD

Born in Flint, Michigan on September 8th 1954 Family of six, second-oldest, all boys Mom was a nurse, Dad was an elementary

principle His grandfather and grandmother from his

father’s side came to America from Poland Loved to read Green Eggs and Ham. Made

him realize that books can be goofy

YOUNG ADULT Culver Military Academy, Lt. Scieszka Aspired to be doctor. Graduated from

Albion College, MI in 1976 and moved to Detroit Aspired to be a writer. Brooklyn, NY. Earned his

MFA in Fiction from Columbia University in 1980. Painted houses for five years Elementary school teacher for 10 years – 1st thru

8th grades. New York City. *****This is what changed his life*****
