Tunnels with low overburden/soil through urban areas • As premises for the project, rail and road should pass in tunnels under the

village of Vik • There will be three separate tunnels of approximately 3,2 km each, partly

constructed in rock and partly in soil

• The geology between Kroksund and Bymoen consists mainly of interlayered shales, sandstones and limestones

• Large parts are covered by marine deposits of various depths. Site investigations have revealed soil conditions consisting of either silty clay or sand with layers of clay and silt underneath a dry crust of clay. There are also local inclusions of quick clay throughout the area. 3 areas are covered by thick soil deposits varying between 20 and 43 m



Tunnels with low overburden/soil through urban areas • In the two northern areas with complex ground conditions, where the

areas are covered by thick soil deposits, technical good solutions will be of great importance

• Optimal solutions proposed by the suppliers may be considered

• Intersection at Elstangen with bridges and roundabouts for local roads and pedestrians



Railway station at Sundvollen including city and hub development The following principles are the bases for the recommendation of location, including design of the station: • Platform and tracks to be 10 m above the normal water level in the lake • Public transportation hub at the same height level as today's E16 • 5 meters spacing between railway bridge and ground level to secure free

movements below the railroad

than 200 m • 2 mill m³ of mass deficit. Tunnel masses are expected to be used

Section 5 Styggedalen - Ve/Hønefoss • Technically a challenging section. Rail traffic must go continuously

through the entire construction period

• Traffic on existing E16 shall be maintained throughout the construction period

• Execution in serval phases will be necessary to maintain rail and road traffic during the construction period

• Large areas are covered by marine deposits of various depths. Typically 50-100 m to solid rock

• Soil consists of either silty clay or sand with layers of clay and silt underneath a dry crust of clay

• Local inclusions of quick clay throughout the area



Hønefoss Station • 4 tracks to platform, 2 x 350 m platforms

• Parking for commuters

• Lowering of station square to 6 meters below today's level with

tunnels to platforms



Storskjæringa • 400 m concrete

tunnel in cut with backfill in area with low geotechnical stability

• Storskjæringa should be closed during the construction period, due to the low geotechnical stability



Styggedalen • Traffic junction with 3

concrete tunnels

• E16 in continuous operation throughout the construction period

• Randsfjordbanen in continuous operation throughout the construction period (some short breaks allowed)

• Exit track from Ringeriksbanen to Randsfjordbanen

• Exit track from Bergensbanen to Randsfjordbanen
