TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY

Reading I: Sirach 3: 17-18, 20, 28-29 This passage celebrates humility. The pious Jew should have no concern with honors. The high and mighty have a greater need of humility than the lowly and the weak.

Reading II: Hebrews 12: 18-19, 22-24a The author contrasts Israel under the old covenant with people on a journey to join those living under the new covenant, who are in heaven.

The Gospel: Luke 14: 1, 7-14 Here Luke contrasts those who are prideful with those who are humble. In essence, he writes that “God will not be fooled by one’s own self-promotion.”

School Supply Collection

All seasons must come to an end…and summer is no exception. With that, let us begin to embrace the coming of another school year. While it is an exciting time for most families, some families are struggling to make ends meet and the thought of gathering school supplies for their children just adds to their burden. Camille Lucanie, one of our parishioners, will be collecting supplies to be distributed to children of Monroe Woodbury Schools. Please consider donating some supplies and putting them in the box at the back of the Church. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.

St. Patrick’s Mega Cash Raffle

Feeling Lucky? The Church of St. Patrick’s will be sponsoring a “Mega” Cash Raffle to benefit the ongoing projects to our church building and religious education building. The Grand Prize drawing of $10,000/$2,500/$1,000 will take place at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance to be held on March 20th. There will be two “early bird” drawings for $500 each at the Parish Picnic, September 29th and on the first Sunday of Advent, December 1st. Tickets are available through the parish office or after Mass. Get your lucky number before they run out…

Prayers for Children Born and Unborn

For all children who have died from abortion, that God might cradle them in his arms and grant them eternal peace with him;

We pray to the Lord

For every little child That we might accept and preserve each one

as a sign of the infinite love of God for us. We pray to the Lord

For the littlest child in her mother’s womb

that in her life we may see the infinite love of God, we pray to the Lord.

Prayers for the New School Year

Gracious God, As the summer begins to fade,

new possibilities lie on the horizon. Bless all those who are beginning

or returning to their roles as teachers and catechists, as well as those

who lead, and support them, in their efforts. May this school year be a time of grace and potential

as they teach, share and challenge others to grow in faith, knowledge and wisdom.

Bless the children and youth, along with their parents,

as they begin a new school year. May their minds open to learning and to the wonder

of discovery and insight. Be with us all as we embark on this new year.

Amen.

Prayer for Students

Lord our God, in your wisdom and love

you surround us with the mysteries of the universe. Send your spirit upon these students

and fill them with your wisdom and blessings. Grant that they may devote themselves

to their studies and draw ever closer to you, the source of all knowledge.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for Teachers

Lord God, your spirit of wisdom fills the earth and teaches us in your ways.

Look upon these teachers. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle

patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager

minds. Grant that we may follow Jesus Christ, the way, the

truth and the life, forever and ever.

Amen.
