Market SpaceLyon | January - June ‘12

The design of a multi function community centre and market in Lyon’s suburb of Villeurbanne.

The design focused on the importance of food to the typical French market with an emphasis on fresh, local and seasonal produce. The outcome was an adaptable space for the community, with a quickly transformed layout that accommodated different functions, such as a market hall, a communal eating restaurant, a sports hall and a theatre.

Cardiff University BSc [Hons] Architecture 2009 - 2012 RIBA Part One

The Welsh School of Architecture developed my interests in sustainable design, environ-mental design and buildable solutions, and helped me to raise my creative lines of enquiry. The course content was clearly focused on future challenges and I believe this will as-sist me to adapt to an office environment and contribute to live projects, as part of a team.

Project work introduced me to many communities in South Wales as well as further afield in Europe, with study trips to Lyon, Barcelona and Copenhagen. This has giv-en my design and cultural understanding a broader, international outlook and made me acutely aware of the need to address issues of social sustainability in my designs.

I gained an excellent technical understanding of environmental issues at the WSA and a proficiency in their analysis and resolution using both computer and physical modeling.

Studio In The Woods Design Studio July 2011

This was a short educational programme to encourage an exchange of architectural knowledge and skills through experimentation and direct experience. The studio, led by Toby Lewis of Bath University and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, emphasised a collaborative approach to the brief, design and build of a “contemplation platform” on the Isle of Wight. I enjoyed the cooperative team-work, translating an outline design into detailed drawings and then the planning and execution of the resulting construction. I gained a valuable understanding of emotional responses to sites and the versatile and sustainable uses of timber in architecture. I was one of eight contributors to the design in a process lasting just 48 hours from concept to completion and I played a lead role in the fabrication of the platform and it’s delivery and erection on site within the allotted time.

The collaborative design of a suspended platform intended to minimise its impact on the nature of the site whilst immersing the user in the found environment.

I played a lead role in the fabrication of the platform and then it’s delivery and erection on site.

I consider that I am self-motivated, hardworking and reliable, as demonstrated by my repeated engagements with Silver Teal Cooks and MECCO. I have developed an aptitude for organised thinking and problem solving, for example by catering for large family groups for weeks at a time in remote lodges in Scotland without assistance from others. These strengths are complemented by effective written and verbal communication and this has helped me to ensure that clients’ expectations have been met and exceeded, leading to repeat engagements. Although I can work alone, I enjoy working as a member of a team and learning in a cooperative environment.

I have strong architectural design and presentation skills, using a combination of hand drawn work, computer aided design and physical modeling to explore and articulate my innovative ideas.

The Social Importance of Street Art Port Talbot | October - December ‘11

The design of a sustainable community and research facility in the suburbs of largely post-industrial Port Talbot.

The design focused on the social and communal importance of urban slack spaces, viewed as flexible accommodation for play and expression, in order to accommodate a rich and ever changing urban social life and inspire awareness and pride in the community’s urban condition.

In September 2008 I attended the 4 week residential cooking course at the “Food of Course” cooking school in Somerset. There I gained many culinary skills which have afforded me several employment opportunities since.

MECCO | catering companyJune 2010 - September 2012

A large range of tasks carried out under the titles of Plate Waiter, Bar Staff and Kitchen Prep. I achieved outstanding standards of service complemented by excellent communication skills in delivering hospitality packages to corporate clients. I learnt a great deal about dealing with demanding clients at prestigious events such as the London 2012 Olympics, the 2010 and 2012 Farnborough Air Shows, the 2010 Ryder Cup, several international cricket test matches and the 2011 AEGON Championships.

Silver Teal Cooks | private cooks agencyJuly 2010 - August 2011

Cook – catering for several families, ranging from 5 to 25 people. Duties included preparing and serving full cooked breakfasts, packed lunches, cooked lunches, afternoon teas, children’s dinner and 4-course dinners, maintaining high standards of cuisine and cleanliness, as well as managing stock to avoid shortages and waste. I gained a great deal of organisational and time management experience, whilst further developing my communication skills and ability to deal with clients.

Ski Esprit | chalet companyNovember 2008 - April 2009

Chalet Host – cooking and cleaning for a 10-guest chalet on a solo basis. I achieved a high standard of service and was reviewed to be one of the best hosts for the company that season, with outstanding guest satisfaction throughout.

INTERESTSI have travelled extensively in Europe and further afield, as well as lived abroad in France. These experiences have exposed me to a diverse range of peoples and cultures and have stimulated my interests in photography and fine art. Travelling has also improved my organisation and time management skills, my ability to motivate friends, and my self-sufficiency.

I have a passion for both food and music and I like to challenge myself in the kitchen on a regular basis as well as develop my skills as a guitarist and drummer. I enjoy cycling and skiing.
