DESCRIPTION

This portfolio is a semesters worth of designs by myself. The designs and prints found in this portfolio were assignments from my Visual Media class taught by Brother Stucki at BYU-Idaho.

  • brochure.Description: A trifold brochure in full color

    Process:Using Adobe Illustrator, I created the logo for the front of the brochure. I chose bright colors and found photos to match the bright colors. For one of the photos I created a cut-out using Photoshop. Then I used a text-wrap effect to wrap it around the image. I then built the rest of the brochure with images and text.I set background colors and perfect alignment.

    Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality images using text-wrapped effect for one. Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.

  • montage.Description:An inspirational montage made by the blending of two or more images, and the use of typography.

    Process:I cropped the background image. I used the selecction tool to select the top image with a slight feather. I placed the top image to the back. I used the brush tool with opacity to reveal the background through the top image. Next, I changed the umbrella color. I then added the text and chose font typs, size and color.

  • event ad.Description: An event ad, in full-color bleed, designed from a scanned image.

    Process: I scanned the dog image from a calendar. Then, putting that image into a word document, I was able to add text and designs into the image. After changing the orientation to landscape instead of portrait, Iinserted text boxes. I then added shapes to create a logo and added more color to the font.

  • imaging.Description: A photo taken by myself with added embelishmenta, text and effects

    Process:First, I took a photo with my digital camera. I uploaded it and placed it into Photoshop. I adjusted the levels of the photo to create a more vibrant red and yellow color in the photo and decrease the noise of the tree trunk. I then added a border with the selection tool and turned it to a red color to match the flower in the photo. Then I added a text box to add the quote. I made the font in the quote white and red.

    Process:First, I used Illustrator to practice by creating 3 options for logos. I used the line tool, the fill tool, the shape tool and the text tool.I made the first logo, then changed it into a grayscale option and colored background option.

    Objectives: Learn basic photography skills. Choose a color scheme, take a photo to match those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.) Size and crop the image, then place on an 8.511 page layout. Use layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in Photoshop. Print with full-bleed margins. Trim only 1/8 (0.125) from all four sides.

  • business.cardDescription: Business card for knitting business

    Process: I used Illustrator to create the logo and then places that logo into a 3in x 2.5in document. I created a bleed to make sure my color blocking would cover the entire card. I also adjusted the borders so that there would be enough room for cutting. Creating an extra logo was just a matter of changing the colors of the initial one. So I put the alternative logo on the back of the card with the information for the business .

  • stationary.Description: Stationary for a knitting business.

    Process: I used Illustrator to create the logo and then places that logo into document 8.5in x 11in. I was able to change the opacity percentage of a small portion of my logo to use as a water mark for the stationary so that it wasnt a simple white piece of paper with a logo on it. Then, I put all necessary information on the footer section and spaced it accordingly.

  • web site.Description:A web page designed to showcase a personally created logo.

    Process:I created a basic webpage using HTML in TextWrangler. I inserted an image into the HTML and then I explained how I created that logo and the reasoning behind text choices, coloring choices, shapes and themes. After creating the HTML part of my site, I then add style with a CSS code. I connected the HTML and CSS codes together by inserting codes to do so. I changed the previous colors listed in the copied CSS code by grabbing the color number from my logo in Photoshop.

    Objectives: Size and optimize an original logo as a .png for a web page so the long side is 300 500 pixels. Write content to describe the process of creating your logo and how it appeals to a target audience. Acquire a working knowledge of HTML. Acquire a working knowledge of CSS. Identify hex colors to match logo, using Photoshop color picker.

  • flier.Description: This is a flier to promote a graduate leadership conference.

    Process: First, I made sketches to determine what type of design I wanted to focus on. I took into consideration the message, audience and the clients wants while sketching our ideas. Then, I created my best flier in Adobe InDesign. Before finalizing and printing the flier, I met with two different peers for critique meetings. This helped simplify, unify and perfect the flier. After making suggested changes, I printed my flier.
