Prenatal Instructor
Camosun’s Prenatal Education program is seeking a contracted instructor to work evenings, effective
immediately. Preference will be given to experienced childbirth educators who can work independently.
Our focus is on prenatal education for expectant parents. We work closely with Island Health to ensure
that expectant parents receive current, unbiased best practice education and hands-on experience in
labour techniques. Our goal is to help expectant parents make informed choices.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Current registration with the CRNBC
2. Demonstrated experience providing prenatal and/or post-natal care, preferably in Victoria
3. Teaching experience, including classroom management
Strongly preferred skills/experience:
Childbirth Educator Program (such as from Douglas College)
Breastfeeding Course for Health Professionals (such as from Douglas College)
Perinatal Specialty Nursing program (such as from BCIT)
Experience working as a childbirth educator
Education in adult learning styles and needs, including cultural sensitivities
Note: Applicants should be:
Available to work on Tuesday and/or Thursday evenings from 6-9pm at VGH
Physically able to lift light boxes, move chairs/tables, and stand for 4-8 hours
Self-reliant, able to work independently to manage challenging situations
Able to work effectively as a team member
Hours and location:
4-week series takes place on Tuesday or Thursday evenings in the Lecture Hall at Victoria General
Hospital. Shifts are assigned in 6-month periods.
You may also be asked to provide back-up coverage for classes which take place on weekends.
You will be asked to attend two Instructor Meetings per year.
As a contracted instructor, your compensation will include orientation and an hourly wage.
