The Pink Bride Magazine is excited to announce the use of local covers on our magazine, submitted by you, our Pink Bride photographers! Any photographer that advertises in the magazine will have the opportunity to submit a photo that you think is worthy of the cover. This may be a photo from a recent wedding or even a photo shoot that you have

put together. Along with the cover shot, you may also submit several photos for a details page inside the magazine.

You must submit your photos by the deadline given for each issue of the magazine. We will then announce the top three photos on www.ThePinkBook.com where brides will go to vote on their favorite picture for the cover. Voting will be open for one week and the photo with the most votes wins! If you are a photographer with one of the top three photos we will feature your detailed shots from the wedding or photo shoot within the magazine.

As a photographer you can appreciate the artistry that goes into photographs and so do we, however keep in mind that the more simple the picture the better the cover. We obviously want to feature a picture of a bride on each cover, now whether that is with a groom or a wedding party that is up to you, but make sure it is a photo that is focused on the bride. If you submit a photo that we feel would be more appropriate if it was cropped, our design staff will let you know and send you the masthead proof of your version and our cropped version so that you can see the difference.

After 20 years of publishing bridal magazines in Tennessee I am excited to announce a major change – going forward our new size will be 9” x 12” and feature lots of local pictures, local stories and recently married local couple’s pictures.

Today brides are visually stimulated more than ever before. Blogs have become very popular online. Our new size will capture the excitement of a blog online but in print.

Note to photographers; below the next cover will be a local cover – will it be yours? This opportunity will give our local photographers the opportunity to show their work on the cover and throughout the new size magazine.

Please call right away so we can get together and discuss options for you.

KATIE HUTCHESON & JOHAN LARSEN 05.08.10

PROPOSAL: I’m the Director of Volunteers at the local office of a national nonprofit. In January of 2009, after making a New Year’s Resolution to volunteer, Johan came in to meet with me about volunteering with my agency. The rest, as they say, is history. During dinner on our backporch. He prepared a fantastic meal, and during the blessing, asked for courage to ask an important question...when I opened my eyes, he was down on one knee.

TRADITIONS: We cut the cake and had the traditional first dance, along with the father/daughter dance. We also incorporated some Danish traditions: we had an assigned “toastmaster” who coordinated a multitude of humorous, heartfelt, and colorful speeches. Our guests completely immersed themselves in the way of traditional Scandinavian toasting (dating back to the Vikings), which includes shouting “Skal!” and then having to make eye contact with everyone at the table. As in the U.S., if people tapped their glasses with their silverware, we had to kiss; except per Danish tradition, we had to stand up on our chairs to do it (not easy in a wedding dress!).

After dinner, dancing commenced in the home’s vast living room, where we had a friend DJ several playlists we’d made. The dancing wouldn’t have been complete without the ceremonial Danish custom of cutting Johan’s socks off at the toes, an apparent cue for me as the new wife to prove my sewing skills (ha!).

THOUGHTS ON THE BIG DAY: That it happened at all. In October of 2009, seven months before our wedding, Johan was critically injured in a motorcycle accident. He subsequently suffered a stroke, and in addition to more than a dozen broken bones, was in the hospital for two months and then had several follow-up surgeries less than 3 months before our wedding. Our engagement period literally shifted from worrying over flowers and colors to worrying whether or not we would have a wedding at all.

FAVORITE WEDDING MOMENT: The speeches during our reception. We didn’t have any toasts the night before at a smaller gathering- we saved them all for the wedding day. Hearing our friends and family’s memories of our separate pasts and hopes for our combined future was the most wonderful finish to a year full of challenges. We felt so loved.

WEDDING COLORS: I knew I didn’t want anything super bright, as we were already getting married in a garden with tons of blooming flowers. So I decided not to compete with the beauty of the setting, and actually my florist, Pat Felts, was pivotal in helping me nail down just what I wanted. My first meeting with her was before I’d committed to colors, and after poring over pictures and colors in her books, she helped me sort out what had previously been a confused vision of what the day would be.

Behind the Story

PROPOSAL: Our senior year at University of Alabama through our mutual friends. We started dating a month before he graduated then we were driving back and forth between Knoxville and birmingham until after my grad school. Early morning boat ride over the 4th of July weekend at Norris Lake

TRADITIONS: We did not see each other before the ceremony. I also had Something old, new, borrowed and blue. My something old was I wore my nana’s broach on my dress. My something new was my dress, veil, necklace and shoes. My something borrowed was I borrowed my mom’s earrings and my something blue was my garter. The most important thing about our wedding was that we kept the focus on the real purpose of the celebration and to make the weekend as low stress as possible for ourselves and for everyone who was a part of the event.

THOUGHTS ON THE BIG DAY: The most anticipated moment of our wedding day was seeing each other right before Melissa walked down the aisle and of course the fun celebration to follow. Another time we were really looking forward to that weekend was the rehearsal dinner at the Tennessee theatre with Bill Snyder playing the Whirletzer. Our favorite wedding moment was celebrating, dancing and being with all of our family and friends. Then leaving the reception was so much fun with the surprise fireworks.

YOUR WEDDING PLANNING: Our favorite part about planning our wedding was the cake tasting and looking for the perfect dress. When I found my dress I was in Birmingham shopping with my best friend who was getting married 2 weeks before me so she was also shopping for a wedding gown. After we found it, my mom came down to Birmingham to see it, she thought it was perfect so we bought it! I did some DIY projects with the help of the bridesmaids, we made the cones we used to put petals in for our guests to throw as we left the reception. Some of the bridal party also helped us make lemon cookies we made for the favors for guests. The lemon cookies were a recipe from the groom’s great-grandmother. I really haven’t been planning my wedding since I was a little girl but, there were certain things I knew I would love but it was fun to wait and plan all the details together so it suited both of us.
