Term Definition¹

Franchised Franchised programmes refers to existing (or sometimes, modified versions of existing) University of Greenwich programmes which have been approved for delivery on a University of Greenwich campus, and which may also be approved for delivery by an external partner. In the case of franchised programmes, the university makes available to the partner its curriculum, syllabi and teaching materials. The award is still a University of Greenwich award, but it is delivered in collaboration with an approved external partner. This is a popular mode of collaborative provision, and is sometimes described as off the shelf provision, as the product (the programme) has already been designed and established by the University of Greenwich.

Validated Validated programmes are new programmes designed and developed by a partner (or jointly with the University of Greenwich), using the University of Greenwich's protocols, which are then approved by the university for delivery by that partner as a University of Greenwich award. The University of Greenwich remains responsible for the standard of the programmes and of the awards.

Externally validated Externally validations are programmes devised and developed by a partner to its own specifications and approved by the University of Greenwich as equivalent to a University of Greenwich award. The University of Greenwich monitors the standard of the programmes and of the awards granted in its name.

Articulations Articulation arrangements involve a formal link between the University of Greenwich and an external partner, providing a guarantee that a cohort of students who achieve an agreed standard in a programme at the partner will be able to progress to a particular stage of an award-bearing programme in the University of Greenwich, provided there is a close curriculum 'fit' for articulation purposes. Students may gain an exit award from the partner at the point of transfer to the University of Greenwich, although this is not always the case.

Joint Joint award: An arrangement under which two or more awarding bodies togetherprovide a programme leading to a single award made jointly by both, or all, participants. A single certificate or document (signed by the competent authorities)attests to the successful completion of this jointly delivered programme, replacing the separate institutional or national qualifications
