What is Jing?

• Image capture and video capture tool– i.e. acts as a camera & video recorder in your

computer to catch what’s on your screen

features)

Jing Basics• Free!• For PC and Mac• Download from techsmith.com/jing• Quick login/free registration– Then, the Jing sun is always on your screen when

you want it!• Equipment: need some form of microphone

Getting Started with Jing• Select an area to capture, resize as needed.

Choose video or image:– Videos:• limited to 5 minutes• No editing possible • SWF format only

– Screenshots - can edit slightly:• add arrows, text, frame, highlight• Change color for tool or text font

4) Edit image if needed and save

What do I do with that file?

• Saving tools:– Screenshots & videos can be stored at

screencast.com (2GB free)– Or, saved locally on your computer

• Sharing tools: – Share the link from screencast.com - send to

anyone to view– Embed in a blog, website, wiki, etc.

Ji Uses: show what’s on your screen!

• For sharing: enhance your online communication; with various people or groups

• For image creation: capture images that can’t be saved normally; grab part of an image

• For troubleshooting: show what’s happening on your screen, error messages, or problems

• For teaching: show how you do something, training, tutorials
