Imagine this scenario:

You receive three phone calls in a row.

1. Your husband is en route but doesn’t know where your daughter’s soccer game is being held tonight.

2. Your friend is standing in the bakery and needs the menu for the surprise birthday party you’re hosting together.

3. Your boss didn’t receive the email you sent earlier with the latest updates to the project due at the end of the week.

First, you will learn to capture an image

using Jing.

This will be followed by instructions for recording a video

through Jing.

Capture an Image Step 1 – Open Jing Move your cursor arrow until it rests over the sun at the top right corner of your desktop screen. Three rays will appear and you will click the top circle, which is marked by four lines creating a cross shape.

Step 2 – Capture area of screen Your cursor arrow now commands a capture cross.

Move the cursor arrow to a top corner of the area of your screen you wish to capture. While holding the mouse down, move the cursor arrow to the opposite bottom corner of the intended area. When the desired image is highlighted, release your depression of the mouse.

Step 3 – Identify “Capture an Image” When you release the mouse, the selected section of your screen will remain highlighted and an option bar will appear along the bottom edge of the image. After ensuring your selected section is the correct image, click “Capture Image,” the first option appearing in the option bar as an outlined square with a yellow rectangle inside.

If this is not the correct image, click “Cancel,” the box marked with an encircled X. Repeat from Step 2.

If this is the correct image, continue to Step 4.

Step 4 – Edit image Your image appears in an editing box. Use the vertical option box at the top left of the image to insert appropriate additional features to clarify your image, such as colored arrows, text, and boxes.

To add the file to your Jing History, identify your file in the Name field and hit Enter. To save the file click “Save,” the box located in the bottom horizontal option bar with an arrow and a computer drive. Name and save the file.

Record a Video Step 1 – Open Jing Move your cursor arrow until it rests over the sun at the top right corner of your desktop screen. Three rays will appear and you will click the top circle, which is marked by four lines creating a cross shape.

Step 2 – Capture area of screen Your cursor arrow now commands a capture cross.

Move the cursor arrow to a top corner of the area of your screen you wish to capture. While holding the mouse down, move the cursor arrow to the opposite bottom corner of the intended area. When the desired image is highlighted, release your depression of the mouse.

Step 3 – Identify “Capture a Video” When you release the mouse, the selected section of your screen will remain highlighted and an option bar will appear along the bottom edge of the image. After ensuring your selected section is the correct image, click “Capture Video,” the second option appearing in the option bar as filmstrip.

If this is not the correct image, click “Cancel,” the box marked with an encircled X. Repeat Step 2.

Step 4 – Record Filmstrip borders will appear on the left and right side of the image and the countdown will begin to start recording the video.

During the recording, maneuver the cursor arrow, access and complete the required tasks, and speak clearly into the microphone. An option bar appears along the bottom edge of the video screen and allows you to finish recording, pause the recording, mute the microphone, restart the recording, and cancel recording. Also, the length of your video appears in the option bar along the bottom of the recording screen.

When finished, click the box with the square located in the option bar to finish recording.

A Jing Preview window will appear and you can view the video.

If this is not an acceptable video, click “Cancel,” the box marked with an encircled X. Repeat from Step 2.
