INDIA-OPPORTUNITIES IN OIL&GAS SECTOR

India imports about three quarters of its crude oil demand.

Booming economy creating ever increasing demand for hydrocarbon.

Most of Indian Hydrocarbon resources are in the offshore.

India’s Focus is shifting for intensification of exploration in Offshore.

Intensive offshore operation is creating additional demand for drilling services.

Besides, existing old fleet need replacement with state-of-the-art

technology.

The increasing demand supply gap of Offshore services - a golden opportunity for existing players.

Indian Liberalized environment provide Freedom of entry and exit.

Page 49: Jindal Presentation

He is in Norway on business and has, among other things, given a presentation at the annual Offshore Northern Seas conference in Stavanger with 40 nations being represented.

–I have already met the Crown Prince once, says Manav Kumar. – When I did I told him how much I looked forward to his and the Princess’ visit in India. I told him the visit was highly anticipated. I am looking forward to the after effect of his visit and expanding on that again. I hope and believe that their visit will generate even more financial co-operation between India and Norway.

The impressive, young executive Manav Kumar has studied both in the US and in the UK and came back home to India with his Master’s in Business management in 2003. After finishing my Master’s in England I came home and started Discovery Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., he says. – The company is therefore only three years old and a new independent company of the Jindal Group formed by the group in 2003 under my initiative. The company is formed to cater to the fast growing requirements of Indian Offshore & production services. Last year Discovery was awarded USD million contract for Crystal Sea FPSO for five years, India’s first FPSO, by ONGC. The company has ambitious plans to grow in this sector.

This is allready Mr. Kumar’s fourth visit to little Norway. And what keeps bringing him back? – Norway is like an oil and gas hub, he answers. – Norway is in the forefront when it comes to innovations of excellent technologies – especially deep water technology – to extract oil. This is a technology India need to extract oil form all its own oil sites.

–I come to Norway both to by new technology, meet Norwegian business people and creating new partnerships between Norwegian and Indian companies. It is so important to think globally and adopt the best from many countries and implement them at home.

Mr. Kumar has great belief in the brand new Indian-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce. – The idea was promoted by the Indian Ambassador to Norway when discussing it with the Norwegian Ambassador, he explains. – The idea is to bring Norwegian and Indian companies together, bring prominent people form both nations together and have a place to discuss issues of mutual interest, like for example VISA and tax issues.

Aftepoften India Supplement 1st Nov06

CEO Manav Kumar:

I BELIEVE IN A JOINT NORWEGIAN-INDIAN COOPERATION–Norway fascinates me; it is a beautiful country with friendly people, the young business executive Manav Kumar said when he recently visited Norway with his wife. One reason for the visit: Increase Indian-Norwegian trade collaboration.

– We are really looking forward to the visit from the Norwegian Crown prince and his wife, says Manav Kumar (28), CEO of Discovery Enterprises, an independent company of the Jindal group.

India driller charts path for growth Jindal follows up restructuring with pursuit of international partnershipsERIK MEANS, Oslo

JINDAL Drilling & Industries of India, having just approved a restructuring and merger process that has more than doubled its size, is pursuing international partnerships to fulfill its aggressive expansion plans.

In a board meeting on 25 August, a demerger of Jindal’s casing subsidiary Haraya Engineering was confirmed, while two other entities owned by parent DP Jindal Group — drilling services units Newsco Newtech and Discovery Hydrocarbons — have been merged into Jindal Drilling.

“We are now two-and-a-half times our earlier size,” said Manav Kumar, a senior manager at Jindal Drilling and son of company managing director Naresh Kumar. “Our prospects are now much better, and we’re getting aggressive in the international market.”The company manages a pair of Noble jack-up rigs on longterm charter to India’s Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). It also has two 350-foot jack-ups of its own being built at Keppel Fels in Singapore and due for delivery in the third and fourth quarters of 2008. Jindal is now hoping to expand its operating experience into semi-submersibles and drillships in a bid to gain a slice of the deepwater market, though it realises it will need to do so through partnerships with experienced hands.

The younger Kumar is also director of another DP Jindal Group company, Discovery Enterprises — an offshore support services outfit with big growth ambitions of its own.

Discovery’s claim to fame thus far is its alliance with Norwegian shipowner Seatankers on the fiveyear, $183 million charter of the Crystal Sea mini-floating production, storage and offloading vessel to ONGC for use on the Bombay High North field. Though start-up from the field has been delayed several months due to a fault with the FPSO’s import riser, Kumar said he expects first oil to flow “by the end of October”, after the end of the monsoon season.

Discovery is now pursuing entry into new markets, including supply vessels, anchor handlers, offshore construction and liquefied natural gas vessels, hoping to forge alliances with established foreign players keen to gain a foothold in the fast-expanding Indian market.

Indians on Norwegian rig raidIndians on Norwegian rig raid

While Norwegian companies are investing a three digital number of billions on upgrading old drilling rigs and constructing new ones, foreign rig operators have started announcing their interest in the Norwegian projects.

This is also the business idea of several Norwegians: to sell the rigs to foreigners. Recently Arne Blystad and his co-investors sold Songa Drilling and three of the company’s old drilling rigs to the British Abbot Group for 3, 8 billion kroner.

Now there might be more deals. Last week top manager Naresh Kumar of the Indian Jindal Group traveled around Norway to look at rig projects. The company has earlier been mentioned as a possible buyer of Petrojack’s rigs before Sinvest beat them to it.

“We are looking for the moment,” Kumar says where he sits in the Indian embassy in Oslo before the week end, before another business meeting. The day before he went to Stavanger. He considers the probability that the company will buy something in Norway as “100 per cent.”

“We only have to see that we buy the right thing and scrutinise the companies,” he says. He does not want to mention any names, but says that Jindal is not only looking for rig companies, but also oil service in general. He estimates that the family dominated Jindal group has a valueof more than one billion dollars. For the time being the rig division is rather limited, but one rig is operating and two are being constructed.

But the most important thing is that the growth prospects in India are enormous. Only 25% of India’s test drilling area is being used. Statoil and Hydro, too, are looking at the possibilities. According to Kumar 200 billion dollars will be invested in Indian energy industry the next ten years. In this connection, he is not only interested in buying Norwegian companies, but also in founding partnerships with Norwegians who want to invest in India.
