• DOE Security review– Office of Assessment– First small unclassified lab to undergo this audit
Central Computing
• Sun systems – Upgrade to Solaris 8 complete, looking at Solaris 9
• Linux systems– Upgrade to EL3 nearly complete– RedHat Satellite server installed
Scientific Computing• Tape drives
– 9840 tape migration complete– Added 5 new 9940B drives– Added 3 new data movers
• Linux File Servers – 3 SATA Systems - hardware problems– Evaluating StorageTek B280 system
• 14 TB• 4 FC loops
• Batch Farm– Upgrading to EL3– Added 24 new systems– 50 older systems reallocated to grid batch farm (Open Science
Grid)
Scientific Computing (cont)
• Pentaquark Search– Data rate doubling to ~40MB/s– Upgrading current Hall B for support
• Hall D– New Experimental Hall– CD0 received last month– Expected data rate ~100MB/s
Projects
• Windows– Standard builds (Server, IIS, desktop, laptop)– Waiting for license agreement
• Email upgrade– Looking at Oracle Collaboration Suite, MS Exchange, Cyrus,
and several other open-source solutions– Separate Anti-Spam/Anti-Virus/mail servers
• Networks– Moving to VLans in a big way
