BASIC COURSE (1°, 10 topics)The student will be introduced to jazz through the knowledge ofhistory, harmony and the language of african-american music. Thegoal is to be able to play the standard jazz with improvisation.

• Topics: History of Jazz, Rhythm and sound, Tonality and scales,Tonal harmony, Rhythmic flow and Education in listeningto music, Modal scales and Cadence on a major and minorprogressions, Other scales, Blues, Standard and Solodevelopment.

• Additional topics: Analysis and listening, Ear training, Instrumentation and Arrangement for combo with 2 soloists, Instrumental improvement.

INTERMEDIATE COURSE (2°, 10 topics)The student will explore new approaches to improvisation, willknow new topics in advanced theory and will discover different waysof playing: the soloist, the duo, the combo.

• Topics: Advice on solos, Harmonic structure, Harmonic analysisand functional, Rhythm changes, Harmonic substitutions,Scales replacement and Turnarounds, Coltrane's harmony,Modal harmony, Free jazz, Irregular rhythms and Poly-rhythms, Ethnic Contamination, Accompanying and Auto-accompanying, the Soloist.

• Additional topics: Analysis and listening, Ear training, Instrumentation andArrangement for combo with section 4 voices, Approachesto the improvisations, Instrumental improvement.

ADVANCED COURSE (3°, 10 topics)The ultimate goal of the course is the realization of the first artproject. It will focus primarily on the development of his style byanalyzing those of leading names of jazz. Final, original and praticaltopics, will permit to the student to improve his skills.

• Topics: Personal Style, Musical Project and its realization,Tradition (New Orleans, Chicago, Swing), Bop Revolution,General Jazz considerations, Composition, Arrangement,Musical Instruments, Orchestration, Direction,Concertation, Interpretation, Creativity, Memorise, Criticalevaluation, Repertoire, Jam Session, Music Marketing.

• Additional topics: Analysis and listening, Ear training, Instrumentation andArrangement for big band and modern orchestra,Instrumental improvement. Realization of the final project.
