“The Galapagos Islands have an extraordinary number of endemic species, or species, or species that exist nowhere else in the world. There are more than 200 plants and more than 130 birds, reptiles, and mammals that are endemic to the Galapagos. Many of the species are endemic because they evolved into their present form after arriving in the Galapagos.”

Chin in the classroom

• Encourage students to write their own non-fiction story about something in nature.

• Do a snippet of his work to get children interested in non-fiction literature.

• Incorporate his stories in science lessons. The illustrations will give a better understanding.

• Have children paint something of their choosing in the style of Jason Chin.
