Animation proposal My animation involves a middle-aged man called Fred, who is looking forward to sitting down and eating his dinner in front of his television. A series of events take place, forgetting his drink and sauce for his dinner, the phone ringing and someone knocking at his door. Each time Fred gets up and walks off screen a different animal comes and eats his dinner until it’s all gone. Firstly his cat Oscar eats some of his dinner as Fred leaves to get his drink and sauce for the kitchen. Secondly as Fred leaves to answer the phone a bird flies through the window and lands on his sofa and begins to eat away at Fred’s dinner. Lastly as Fred leaves to attend a knocking door a squirrel jumps through the window and lands on the sofa. The squirrel finishes the last bit of food left on Fred’s plate he then falls asleep lying down on the plate. Fred returns whilst his eyes are fixated on the television he picks his tray up and sits back down not knowing the squirrel is still asleep on his plate, he then looks down about to eat and sees a squirrel asleep on his plate and throws the tray and plate up in the air as the last scene. My idea will hopefully show how such everyday encounters and events can be rather comical in an animation. The fact Fred is trying to do something so simple as eating his dinner, yet each time being denied could possibly be something I hope people will be able to relate with and find humorous. I want to create my animation with a comical side as I think some of the best animations are simple yet very comical. Thus I have taken inspiration from the collection of short animations Simons cat by Simon Tofield. (‘Cat man do’). I like the simplistic feel of the hand drawn designs and I would like to try and take a similar approach within my animation. I find the style of animation to be something that people will be familiar with and I feel that my idea would be suited with a similar cartoon style as of (Simons cat). By hand drawing most of my animations initial ideas I will be able to achieve the quirky environment and atmosphere I want. I will be including sound effects for several sections within my animation to help set the scene and engage the audience within the short animation. Simple effects and voices will play in the background amongst mumblings and speech for Fred as he talks away off screen to give the impression that he is still within a short distance but without showing him on screen. With relation to time and place and changing contexts, my interpretation shows the changing of time that each event takes place. Each happening within one overall short period of time, such a short space of time yet an endless amount of scenarios and events are capable of taking place.
