BACKGROUND

Born in Bunkyo, Tokyo

Began his animation career in 1963 and joined Toei Animation

Attained International acclaim as a masterful storyteller and as a maker of anime feature films

Co-founder of Studio Ghibli along with Isao Takahata

Directed many anime films and won many awards

PERSONAL LIFE

Married fellow animator Akemi Ota

Got two sons named Goro Miyazaki and Keisuke Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki wants his son to create a name for himself

He did show his support of his son’s career, he is the screenwriter for Goro’s film, From Up on Poppy Hill.

Spirited Away (2001)

An animated fantasy film

Directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki

Produced by Studio Ghibli

Became the most successful film in Japanese history

It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards

Story about a girl that accidentally entered a spirit world and she works there while trying to return to the human world

In addition, it was the first animation film that I watched.

My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

It won the Animage Anime Grand Prix prize and the Mainichi Film Award for Best Film in 1988

Story about two young girls which are siblings discover their relationships with the friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan.

The highest grossing film in Japan of 1997 until Titanic was released later that year

Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)

An animated fantasy film

Directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki

Produced by Studio Ghibli

It went on to gross $190 million in Japan and $235 million worldwide

It is one of the most financially successful Japanese film in history.

It is nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 78th Academy Awards in 2006 but lost to a British stop-motion animated comedy film, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

The Wind Rises (2013)

It was his last work before his retirement
