The annual Bradford Marine & ATV Buddy Bass Tournament is a fundraising and community develop-ment event with proceeds directed toward economic development projects of the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. This tournament is the largest non-circuit fishing

tournament in Arkansas and keeps growing each year with hundreds of local fishermen attending (600+ expected in 2016). Northwest Arkansas Spring Job Fair | May 11, 2016

The Chamber will be hosting both a spring and fall job fair for Northwest Arkansas in 2016 - the largest and longest running job fairs in the region. These job fairs provide local business and industry an opportunity to connect with local and regional job seekers, especially important as eco-nomic development continues to rebound and more and more jobs are created for the workforce.

Job seekers enjoy access to the Job Seekers Resource Room (provided by NOARK’s Workforce Readiness Committee) getting free personalized reviews of resumes and interviewing skills. The Northwest Arkansas Spring Job Fair returns on May 11 and will be held at the Frisco Station Mall in Rogers from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Spring Golf Tournament | May 16, 2016

The Spring Golf Tournament will be held at beautiful Shadow Val-ley Country Club May 16. This four-person scram-ble allows Chamber members an opportunity to play golf together and compete for prizes while enjoying business-building networking with

players from other teams. Many members invite their customers to play with them as a gesture of thanks while others choose to bring employees as a reward and show of appreciation. Prizes are awarded for top finishing teams and for individual winners of the longest drive, closet-to-the-pin and putting contests. Each golfer receives complimen-

tary snacks and beverages, breakfast (morning tee time), lunch and entry into the 19th Hole Party.

NWA BizCon 2016 – Connections Start Here | Fall (TBA)

The new NWA Biz-Con (a new event that refreshes the Northwest Arkansas Business Expo) is a partnership between the Arkansas World Trade Center and the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. This new event connects businesspeople to new business contacts,

ideas and opportunities through education on entrepreneurship and other hot business topics delivered in seminars and guest speaker pre-sentations by recognized SMEs (subject matter experts). Back by popular demand in 2016 is the Gone in 60 Seconds Elevator Pitch competition for start-up entrepreneurs to pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges who are local celebrity entrepreneurs and business executives. It also fea-tures the always fun, night-before Kick-Off Party. A limited number of exhibit booths will be sold for businesses to promote their products and ser-vices. Other event details, including the location and date, are still being planned as of press time and will be announced in early 2016.

Fall Golf Tournament | September 9, 2016

The Fall Golf Tourna-ment is held annually at Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club in Rogers. Teams of four enjoy building busi-ness relationships on the golf course in a beautiful fall setting. Tee off in Sep-tember and treat clients to a round of golf to seal the deal, say thank you to

clients for their business or show your employees you appreciate them by inviting them to play in the tournament. Prizes are awarded for top finish-ing teams and for individual winners of the lon-gest drive, closet-to-the-pin and putting contests. Each golfer receives complimentary snacks and beverages, breakfast (morning tee time), lunch and entry into the 19th Hole Party.

business community and providing guidance to the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce on the needs of the small business community.

The Council is made up of Chamber members who own, work for, or actively serve small businesses throughout Northwest Arkansas. The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Council have been recognizing small businesses on a monthly basis for the

past several years. This year, there is a change to the format and frequency of the Small Business of the Month Award. At the recommendation of the Small Business Council, who oversees this program, nominees will now be selected for the

Outstanding Small Business of the Quarter (OSB) awards in 2016.

How It WorksThe process from previous years will remain

largely intact and only have a few changes. Mem-bers of the Small Business Council will interview the nominees during the first month of each quar-ter, which can be submitted online at RogersLow-

ell.com. They will then vote on a winner during the second month of the quarter and the award will be presented in the last month of the quarter. The four winners will then automatically be nomi-nated for the 2016 Small Business of the Year to be awarded at the 2017 Annual Banquet.

For more questions on this or anything related to the Small Business Council, please con-tact Steve Cox at [email protected].

K2J Connect Brings Together Educators and Industry Leaders

The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce hosted its K2J (Kindergarten to Job) Connect event on November 23, 2015 with the purpose of bringing

together area educators and industries to talk about workforce needs and development. K2J Connect, presented by Walmart, took place at FM Corporation in Rogers and featured 12 educators from seven different school districts across North-west Arkansas.

Attendees of the event included guidance counselors, principals, and middle and high school teachers. The educators were given an overview of FM Corporation (FM) operations in Rogers and asked questions about the types of career oppor-tunities at FM.

The educators were then given a tour of the FM plant and got the opportunity to see the first-hand how modern manufacturing works. Those on the tour were very impressed with what they saw and many came back noting that the reality of a modern factory was much better than what they thought it would be like.

After the tour, a facilitated discussion took place between the educators and members of

the FM leadership team. They discussed how to address the workforce issues facing our area. Many great ideas were brought forth, including getting industries more involved in the schools, allowing tours or virtual tours of plants, and doing more to market these types of jobs avail-

able in our region.K2J Connect is a program of the Rogers-

Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. For ques-tions on this or anything related to economic development, please contact Steve Cox at [email protected].

Educators and Members of the FM Leadership Team discuss workforce issues.

dents about local labor markets trends and data, as well as employment projections and training opportunities and share information about Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that are offered on the high school campuses and through the Secondary Career Center that align to regional workforce opportunities and demands.

b. Establish collaborative partnerships with local businesses, industries, post-secondary institu-tions, and community to provide career & technical programs that prepare students with college and

career readiness and that will lead to success careers.c. Identify services and resources available

through local partnerships as supplements to curriculum, instruction, and learning experiences to facilitate the integration of both career and employability skill sets designed to prepare stu-dents for success in the workplace.

2016 Benton County and Legislative Candidate Election Forums

Chamber Night January 26 |Rogers City Hall | 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

January brings about the beginning of what I believe is going to definitely be an exciting election year in Arkansas. Interest in this election is expected to be very high,

and the presidential campaigns will be the driving force behind what many political observers are maintaining will be a record voter turnout at the polls this year.

As important as the presidential election may be to the country, we do have some rather signifi-cant elections taking place in Rogers and Benton County, as well. The Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce will join with the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Northwest Arkansas Emerging Leaders to sponsor two Pri-mary Election Forums before the end of this year.

January 14 ForumThe first of our forums will take place on

Thursday, January 14, at 6:00 p.m. All of the candidates in the Republican Primary for Benton County Judge and Benton County Sheriff have been invited to participate in this forum that will be held in the Peterson Auditorium of the Shew-maker Center for Global Business Development,

which is located on the Northwest Arkansas Com-munity College Campus.

February 11 ForumOn February 11, at 6:00 p.m., we will return

once again to Peterson Auditorium for our sec-ond Republican Primary Election Forum. This time the candidates for Arkansas State Repre-sentative have been invited to participate. There are three contested races in Benton County for seats in the Arkansas House of Representatives. Rusty Turner, Editor of the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, will serve as the moderator for both forums.

We live in a representative democracy that functions best when its electorate is engaged and informed. I encourage you to attend these forums, so that you can make your own well-informed decisions about whom to cast your vote for on Election Day. Also encourage your friends, your neighbors, and your family to attend these discussions as well.

Every election is always described by politi-cians as the most important election we’ve ever had in the history of our country, and they are right.

Democracy is more than just a term that describes our form of government. It is the deliberative and ever-evolving process that has been passed on for over two hundred years to every new generation of Americans from those who came before. In that spirit, I encourage you to attend these forums and bring with you a young person who is approach-ing voting age or will be voting in their first elec-tion this year, because you know this is the most important election that we’ve ever had – well, at least until we have the next one.
