Próxima fecha para la si-
guiente preparación pre-
bautismal será el 11 de
abril. Necesita registrarse
con tiempo. Gracias

PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Fr. Pierre’s message from Sunday of the Baptism of the
Lord:
We’ve been celebrating Christmas, Holy Family and Epiph-
any recently. The Church, however, very quickly invites us to
abandon the gospels about the childhood of Jesus and in-
vite us to tackle one essential of his life: his public ministry.
It is a “let’s get to the point.” And it is a big jump, after a
silence of thirty years, here is Jesus entering the scene. Je-
sus will change the face of the earth—dividing history in B.C
and A.C. But, according to our human logic, there is some-
thing wrong with the kicking off of his mission. He is the
One everyone has been waiting for, yet we see him waiting
in a long line for his turn to get baptized. Is that a joke?
When he reaches John, his cousin will try to stop him, recog-
nizing him as the Christ. I would like to point out three
things:
- Jesus’ solidarity with the sinner: Jesus did it in this very
moment where everybody is taking the decision to change
their life, to repent. Jesus joins the sinners where God
works their hearts out. This attitude of Jesus challenges
us—we who are so quick to judge others when they make
mistakes. Be compassionate, always try to understand and
support. We are all formed of frailty and error and that we
have to pardon reciprocally each other’s folly.
- The revelation of the Holy Trinity, which is the main point
of the gospel today because it tells us that Jesus is fully hu-
man and fully divine. First of all we have to make it clear
that the baptism of Jesus, attested by the four Gospels, is
an undeniable historical fact. The Church didn’t make it up.
If it was an invention in order to make Jesus look more di-
vine, the early Christian would invent something better than
that. Jesus here reveals to us a secret about God: He is
trine: Father, Son and Spirit. If you are looking for an exam-
ple of Trinity in the Bible, you’ve got it. A voice (Father), the
appearance of a dove(Spirit), and Jesus(son)
- Jesus’ mission. He said to John, “Allow it now, for thus it is
fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Here Jesus shared
with everybody his program, the key point of his mission: to
fulfill and justice. Jesus is faithful to the tradition of the
whole history of his people, and, at the same time, he reno-
vates it and transforms it.
Like a wise man said: It is of the utmost importance for man
to always look towards these five directions, namely: for-
ward: to know where you are going, and that implies forma-
tion and education; back: to remember where you came
from and avoid making past mistakes; below: to make sure
you don't trample or humiliate anyone along the way; the
sides: to see who is by your side to support you, and who
needs you, since happiness is not real except when it is
shared; and, finally, above: to remember that there is al-
ways Someone taking care of you which is God.
We don’t always know how he does that. But, like John who
tried to prevent Jesus from receiving the baptism, then al-
lowed him without understanding; we have to learn to trust
God. God sometimes calls us to trust Him in ways that do
not seem to be immediately practical, logical or make
sense. John trusted Jesus and then the miracle of the
epiphany of the Holy Trinity happened. Sometimes we have
to listen more to the promise of divine providence than our
own natural deduction of human logic. Let us pray so that
God can help us to be led by Him so as to live daily in ac-
cord with his plan. Our Lady Queen of Peace… pray for us! -
