#1 Keep it clean

A no-brainer you might think, but remember your agent might have a motivated

buyer wanting to come through outside of the home open days. Make sure your

home is ready for a drop in.


#2 Pets should be neither seen nor heard

We love our animal friends, but some potential

buyers might be put off by an interested cat or

overly enthusiastic dog! Have someone take them

to the park, beach or a friend’s home for the day.


#3 De-Clutter

Make sure your home is a blank canvas for your potential buyers. A few

family photos are fine, but hide away knick knacks, excess toys or

ornaments and personal items.


#4 Keep your home in good repair.

Patch any paint nicks or cracks and make sure all of the fittings that will come with

the home are all intact. If this means replacing them, then do it!


#5 Let in some light.

Sunlight promotes positivity and calmness. Make sure you open your curtains and let

in some natural light to make the home appear more spacious and airy.


#6 Dress it up.

If your pets or children have used your furniture like a jungle gym, freshen up the

look of your living areas with rented plants, cushions and throw rugs. It shouldn’t be

perfect, but if the home looks easy to live in, potential buyers will leave with a

positive feeling.


#7 Trim your garden.

Stand across the road, and have a look at your

front yard. Have you removed toys and trimmed

the overhanging trees and hedges? Sweep the

porch and dust the furniture. Paint the fence if

it’s a little worn.


#8 What’s Cooking?

Studies have shown that pleasant scents can set a buyer at ease. You can buy food

related room sprays from home wares stores, or you can put some damp bread rolls

in the oven and put on a pot of coffee. Some fresh flowers wouldn’t go astray either!


#9 Security can matter.

Is your home perfect for a family? Give it the once over and make sure that your

security grills and doors are in working order.


#10 Finally, if this is all too hard – Hire a

professional!

Look for local gardeners, cleaners and interior decorators to give you advice for your

home open day! Enlist a group of friends, or make it a mini-reno party. It’s best not to

stress out; you might impart negative feelings without knowing it.
