CAREER SUMMARY AND MOTIVATION FOR EMPLOYMENT

I am hopeful that you will find this summary to be an impressive read and additionally, find my qualities

useful for your purposes.

Perusal of my Resumé will highlight my possession of useful skills such as political/economic risk analyses,

report writing, professional communication and networking skills. Presently, I am an Independent Consultant

servicing primarily political/economic risk projects, but have also taken on business analysis. I also possess

experience in administerial and labour management issues. I have achieved an MSc (International

Development) at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The focus of my research was relevant in its expert

considerations of political economic governance and strategies in mining industries. I have mastered

knowledge of industrial policy frameworks in its ability to enable development through political/economic

risk mitigation, foreign direct investment, stakeholder management and corporate social responsibility. I have

also achieved a BSocSci (Hons – Cum Laude) (Political Economy, International Relations & Conflict

Resolution) and specialized in the analysis of economic diplomacy within international multilateral strategic

groups as well as international trade relations. This lends to my credibility in the field of strategic relations

and intensive policy analysis.

I trust that the performance of my Honours’ Degree and the subsequent quality, value and experience of my

Masters’ Degree would signal my capacity to work effectively within pressurized environments. Moreover,

my skills of negotiation were most recently displayed in competitive international fora in my campaign for

what was arguably the world’s finest single scholarship, the British Commonwealth/DfID Shared Scholarship.

This extremely competitive, £27 000 scholarship was offered globally to 40 individuals, of which I was an

awardee. Additionally, there was successful and constant communication with senior individuals in business,

labour and government in both the UK and South Africa with the aim of networking and enhancing the value

of my research.

A great portion of my degree was delving into what humans respond to in our modern world. I believe that

finding the answers to these socio-economic requirements in our complex societies requires dynamism and

creativity with an international focus. My current work as an Independent Consultant has ventured into

research and networking projects that cover activity in energy, terrorism, foreign affairs and foreign direct

investment. Additionally, whilst I am presently making strong headway, I am more than willing to be

absorbed, groomed and further developed. I also trust that the aforementioned would signal my capacity for

loyal, mature and sensible decision-making.

I believe that this is non-negotiable: strong leadership and intellectual ingenuity is the “engine room” of any

organization and that this requires people of integrity, loyalty and energy to push the vision forward. With this

added to my great work ethic and personal drive to achieve positive results for myself and those whom I

3

serve, I believe that I am a prime candidate who would make a strong contribution at if given the opportunity.

I believe that my numerous achievements prove my considerable potential value and also voices my ability to

achieve great successes in short periods of time by understanding environment, cooperating with people and

utilizing all resources at my disposal efficiently and effectively. Moreover, I welcome extensive travel and

pride myself in being teachable, respectful and independent.

If life is about serving the needs of others, then I aim to live life well!

I thank you for your time and considerations and I sincerely trust that this produces a positive outcome for all

involved.

Kind Regards,

Jethro Abel

Awards and Achievements

I consider the greatest achievements in life to be those that enrich the lives of others and

make a positive, substantive difference in my sphere of influence. I take pride in this

according to the values of my faith that have taught me discipline, loyalty and most

importantly, respect. The consequent personal achievements are a product of these values.

In 2013 I had completed a Masters’ Degree at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (A

Russell Group University) specializing in Macroeconomic Development and Political Risk. I

am also the holder of the Commonwealth Commission’s Commonwealth Shared Scholarship

Scheme 2012-2013 award from the UK government’s Department for International

Development. This award comprises one of the UK’s finest International Scholarships offered

to only 40 students from the Commonwealth, globally. My most recent research dissertation

endeavor is titled:

Critical Perspectives of in 21st Century South African Governance : Challenges within the Coal Industry’s

Stakeholder Management Framework in the National Development discourse

The research explored modes of collaborative governance, public management and

stakeholder management within the strategically vital South African Coal Industry. This

critically and comparatively examined the management of the sector between the competing

interests and perspectives of Business, Labour, the Government and communities. The

research achieved its aim of critiquing the viability of a collaborative governance framework

in a modern and resource-rich developing countries.

My Honours’ Degree involved majoring in International Relations and Political economy and

was successfully completed with Merit Distinction (cum laude) at the University of KwaZulu

Natal (UKZN), South Africa. I had also been a Research Intern for the UKZN Dialogics

Project. This project involved active field research into the plight of illegal immigrants in the

Central Durban, South Africa area.

9

Previous Dissertations:

“Problems and Prospects of South African membership in mini-lateral economic groups: a

case study the Political Economy of BRICS.”

AND

“The ANC and Foreign Policy development in the post-apartheid era: A study of Joint

Strategy and Trade Relations”

In June 2012, I was also approved by the British International Studies Association (BISA) as

a panelist at their prestigious BISA International Conference in June of 2012 held in

Edinburgh. At this conference, I presented research pertaining to International political

economy, economic diplomacy and international trade. This highlighted South Africa’s

prospects and challenges in the Global Economy and more especially South Africa’s

Diplomacy through the BRICS Multilateral Strategic Partnership.

Going forward, I intend to pursue active professional work in relevant areas. However, long

term goals comprise establishing myself in the Private, Public or NGO sector. I believe my

strong analytical and internationalist insight into global economic systems and aspects of

human nature has brought me far in my career and will continue to serve me and my

employers well in my professional work. Moreover, I seek to translate this foundation into

active, dynamic and loyal service. Consequently, I do strongly believe that I will be an asset

to any organization.
