Reflections of a Dev Math Instructor

Favorite reasons for having a Dev Ed counselor:

In-house location is very convenient for students and instructors.

Students build a relationship of trust with the counselor.

Since the counselor sees a smaller, specific population of students, there are higher odds that she may have personal insight about your students.

Reflections of a Dev English Instructor

Favorite reasons for having a Dev Ed counselor:

Counselor is seen in the building on a regular basis, thus reminding everyone that she is only a few steps away.

Having a counselor in close proximity makes it easier to deal with in-class “breakdowns.”

The open door policy makes students and instructors feel more welcome.
