Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down.

Worry has a fascinating etymology which can be traced back to the Old High German "wurgen" which means "to strangle"

Fret (derived from an Old English word fretan meaning "to eat") means to affect something as if by gnawing or biting

Worms eat you when you’re dead; worries eat you when you’re alive. (Jewish Proverb)

Worry is like a rocking chair; it will give you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere.

E+R=O. Event + Response = Outcome. Self Reliant Response

E+R=O. Event plus Response equals Outcome. Supplication (deesis from deomai = to want, to beg, to pray) refers to making known of one's specific needs, even conveying a sense of an urgent request to meet that need.

E+R=O. Event plus Response equals Outcome. Be made known (Let God know what is troubling you) (gnorizo) is a command (imperative) in the present tense (continually do this, make it the habit of your life).

E+R=O. Event plus Response equals Outcome. God knows all our needs before we ask Him, He delights to have that expression of our confidence in Him which intelligently utters our needs in detail in communion with Him. Vine

E+R=O. Event plus Response equals Outcome. Outcome - Peace, a sense of wholeness. This peace, this knowing of God’s presence with us, becomes like the reassuring presence of a protector watching over us.

Some final thoughts. • True ‘Shalom peace’ can never be found within

• Make it a daily habit to develop your relationship with the ‘With me’ God. • Write out your prayers • Speak out your prayers • Breathing exercises. Worries out, Christ in • Add to the ‘worry’ picture - the loving arms

of Christ around you

• Prayer and committing the worry to God doesn’t mean a 'hands off' approach to life's struggles. Prayer is an invitation to face the future out of the context that God is 'with me'
