WELCOME...Hello and welcome to our February programme!

It’s a busy start to the New Year in the world of film with BAFTAs, Oscars and Golden Globe ceremonies.

With 12 Oscar nominations, The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy is this month’s must-see. A thrilling story of man versus nature, with a dash of revenge and retribution to keep us on the edge of our seats!

Quentin Tarantino returns to the director’s chair with his eighth film, The Hateful Eight, starring the likes of Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Don’t miss from Fri 05 Feb!

The Big Short, adapted from Michael Lewis’ non-fiction bestseller, plunges us into the murky waters of banking in this highly entertaining drama starring Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell.

Other highlights include Golden Globe Winner Jennifer Lawrence in Joy – loosely based on the true story of self-made millionaire, Joy Mangano; Sylvester Stallone in Rocky spin-off Creed and Brie Larson in Room.

Alvin and The Chipmunks return to entertain the young and young at heart this February half term, with Goosebumps arriving on Sat 27 Feb.

We are also paying tribute to the incredible British actor, Alan Rickman, by showing Love Actually and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, together with Labyrinth in honour of the great David Bowie.

We’ve got the Six Nations Rugby on the big screen for sports fans and amazing shows for theatre and opera lovers – see pages 24-29 for details!

Set in post-Civil War Wyoming, the film charts the journey of a group of bounty hunters, outlaws and fugitives after they find themselves seeking shelter from a blizzard in the same cabin.

While racing toward the town of Red Rock, bounty hunter John “The Hangman” Ruth (Kurt Russell) and his fugitive prisoner (Jennifer Jason Leigh) encounter another bounty hunter (Samuel L. Jackson) and a man who claims to be a sheriff. Hoping to find shelter from a blizzard, the group travels to a stagecoach stopover located on a mountain pass. Greeted there by four strangers, the eight travellers soon learn that they may not make it to their destination after all.

Meanwhile, MI5 have discovered a radio signal transmitted from Walmington-on-Sea towards Berlin, apparently the work of a spy, giving the Home Guard a chance to make a real difference in the war.

In a brand new film, directed by Brian Large and produced by Arts Alliance, Kaufmann sings Puccini’s greatest tenor arias, including ‘Nessun dorma’ along with arias and scenes from Turandot, Tosca, Manon Lescaut and La Fanciulla del West.

Central to the film is Kaufmann’s unforgettable Puccini recital at the iconic La Scala, Milan which he described as one of the greatest nights of his life, making national news in Italy. The event was such a success that after five encores and 40mins of applause the audience were still left wanting more.

THE RAILWAY CHILDREN

E. Nesbit’s The Railway Children follows the story of Roberta (Bobbie), Phyllis and Peter, three sheltered siblings who suffer a huge upheaval when their father, who works for the Foreign Office, is taken away from their London home and falsely imprisoned. The children and their mother, now penniless, are forced to move from London to rural Yorkshire near a railway line. The story deals with themes of justice, the importance of family and the kindness of strangers.
