Every month has it’s own special flavor, full of things that we col-lectively do, events and holidays that we celebrate. Each month has

it’s own unique feel.June has always been my favorite

month of the year. It’s a cheerful month, full of possibility and adventure. School is out for the season, the sun is shining and we’re starting to dream of summer vacations and lazy days spent out on the water.

Summer is a season for spending time with our families and friends. Creat-

ing new connections and honoring time tested ones with weddings and reunions. Dad even has his special day coming up on the 16th.

June is also the first day of hurri-cane season, but they don’t even seem to bother us during this special month!

This month we’ve brought together several articles for you with a common theme of summer fun. I hope that we can inspire you to find a little adventure of your own!

How to make lunch on the boat more fun than that boring old sandwich.

I caught fish and all they caught was a bad attitude. They couldn’t believe I had caught fish. Well, I did!

Key West

We chose to get married at st. Mary’s (now the

Basilica of st. Mary star of the sea) because it is our parish, and we would be the third generation of Oro-pezas to be married there. It’s a beautiful church with rich history for

our family and the community. We also have family across the country, and everyone wanted to come to Key West!

the FlOrIda Keys are one of the most popular destination wedding locations in the United states and it’s no wonder:

locationFrom casual beaches and tiki bars to wildly extravagant resort hotels, and everything in between, there are a variety of ways to say I do in the Keys. there are sunsets and beach-es, historic places, luxury hotels, sailing ships and private yacht charters, offshore islands surrounded by the emerald blues and greens of the ocean. If you like to fly you can do it in the sky. If you’re a diver, you might even choose to say your vows underwater! I think we’ve got just about everything covered but snow.

BeautyUnlike almost every other place in america, in the Florida Keys you can see the sunrise and the sunset over the ocean. Because of the gorgeous location, the need for decorations is minimal. Get married at the beach, sink your toes in the sand and let the beautiful blue skies and swaying palm trees be your back-drop, or take advantage of the lush subtropi-

cal foliage and fauna to make your photos amazing. Come in May and the fireflies will make them sparkle. you might like to dress like a pirate, I don’t know, and drink some ale - you can do that too!

Weatherthe Florida Keys are as close to the tropics as you can get without leaving the United states and with our balmy, nearly always sunny tropical weather, good wedding days are easy to come by all year round. the Keys experi-ence an average of 76% sunshine throughout the year. that’s about 277 days out of the year that you can expect good weather. I’d venture to guess that doesn’t include the overcast but still pleasant days - it makes your odds pretty good that you won’t need to use your back-up plan.

It does get pretty warm here in the summertime, but according to fla-keys.com and our all knowing tourist development council....

“Wherever you are right now, chances are the weather is better here in the Florida Keys. that’s true even on a summer day. the hottest it’s ever been in Key West is 97°F, and
