� In general, we want to use products which are free from contamination.

� But, what if we willingly or unwillingly � But, what if we willingly or unwillingly adding some contamination?

� And, that is the point I wanted to highlight in this presentation.

� Do you feel trees are being cut, environment is largely being polluted with every sheet of paper you use?


DeforestationDeforestation

� Major causes for deforestation in India include firewood, furniture, construction, space requirement for agricultural farming and residential purposes.and residential purposes.

� Paper industry’s share might be just 2% or even below in deforestation.


WaterWater

� Often paper mills are blamed for high water requirement.

� Let’s have a comparison.

� Sugarcane farming needs 1100-1800mm water per year. That comes out to 1000-water per year. That comes out to 1000-2000 lit. of water per kg of sugar produced. If sugarcane was planted in whole area of most paper mills, the water consumption would have been much higher, than required by the paper mill itself.

� Man uses water for domestic purposes also, for bathing, washing clothes, cooking etc.

� It has been observed that the daily water � It has been observed that the daily water requirements per person vary between 100 lit. to 250 lit., sometimes much more.


� However, please do not forget to send paper for recycling after you recycling after you use it.
