SME Instrument - Horizon 2020 • NCP SME Instrument Team has engaged with and supported over 800 companies on the SME Instrument
since the commencement of Horizon 2020.
• This is driven by ongoing engagement with SMEs and driving awareness
• Across the SME Instrument there have been 97 successful participants, 103 projects coordinated and €71.3m approved
– These include 39 successful participants, 35 projects and €67.9m approved across Phase 2 of the Programme.
• From a regional development perspective it is important to note 19 of the successful Phase 2 participants are located outside of Dublin

NCP Academy – ncpacademy.eu • Enterprise Ireland is the Coordinator of the project.• To build on existing activities by improving and enhancing tools and services already provided by
the NCP Academy as well as by developing new tools to address the needs of the various stakeholders
• 11 consortium members and involvement from 21 member states• Project commenced in November and first Consortia Meeting has taken place.• The Workplan has four work packages to be completed over a two year period:
– specific support for the NCPs for Legal and Financial aspects– capacity building measures tailor-made for the needs of the NCP community by implementation of a high-
quality training programme and provision of opportunities for the exchange of experiences and of good practices
– developing the NCP system; platform for the NCP Coordinators and NCP network projects and joint NCP knowledge hub
– management and coordination

DTIF What types of projects will be funded
1. Projects of up to 3 years of scale and commercial impact;
2. Large-scale projects (€5-10 million total cost over 3 years) are encouraged.
3. €180 million available to 2022;
4. A minimum of 1 SME in every consortium;
5. Collaboration is an essential requirement;
6. Funding sought should be at least €1 million;
7. Co-funding from enterprise partners will be required:
- for companies up to 50% of the eligible costs (including overheads)
- for RPOs, up to 100% of eligible costs plus overheads.

Collaboration Types
• Multinationals located in Ireland and Irish enterprises;
• Enterprises and Research Performing Organisations located in Ireland
• Any combination of the above
• An SME must be one of the participants;
• Other partners welcome to participate also but DTIF funding is limited to eligible enterprises and RPOs located in Ireland.
