About the BSc (Hons) In Accounting

IntroductionAccounting and Finance is a key business discipline, requiring wide knowledge and understanding of all the functional areas within an organisation. It has come to play an increasing role in the management of business organisations and many senior company directors have a finance background. This course encompasses general management subjects such as finance, economics, law, business and computing, as well as the practical skills of the accountant.

Aims and ObjectivesThis course aims to provide students with the necessary technical skills to begin a career in accounting or business and to provide a theoretical background to the practice of accounting.

Course ContentTo be awarded this degree, students must:4Pass the relevant examinations in the ACCA’s examination scheme 4Complete a Research and Analysis Project (RAP), which examines particularly the ability of students to carry out research and analysis. The RAP consists of two separate documents; a 6,500 word Research Report (RR) and a 2,000 word Skills and Learning Statement (SLS). 4Give a presentation on the project to your project mentor.

Rules and RegulationsIn order to be eligible for the Oxford Brookes University degree of BSc (Hons) in Applied Accounting students must:4Be registered with Oxford Brookes University ie. Opted-in to the BSc Degree before passing F7, F8 and F94Have attempted and passed the three ACCA papers F7, F8 and F9 and you must have passed or received exemptions for all other papers in the Fundamentals Level4Attempt and pass all three ACCA F7, F8 and F9 exams, exempted students must contact ACCA and attempt these exams, otherwise they would not qualify to achieve the BSc Degree

4Have completed the Ethics Module4Comply with the English Language requirements4Complete and pass the Oxford Brookes University RAP4Complete the BSc Degree scheme within 10 years of your initial registration onto the ACCA professional qualification.

For those students who have notified ACCA that they would like to take part on the degree scheme the registration is automatically processed.

If you have not notified ACCA of your interest on the degree scheme on your initial registration form you can:4write to the Oxford Brookes University BSc Administration Team and request to be opted in OR4enter your details by logging into myACCA

SubmissionStudents must ensure that their RAP arrives at the ACCA Office in Oxford Brookes University before the appropriate deadline.

Submission Periods & Time LimitsMay 2011 submission dates are:

4Latest date to complete the Professional Ethics module 15 October 2011

4Earliest Submission date: 1st November 2011

4Latest receipt date: 21st November 2011

4Oxford Brookes Examination Board: March 2012

4RAP and BSc degree results: 28th March 2012

Students who are opted in to the Oxford Brookes programme must submit their RAP within ten years from their first date of registration with ACCA.

BPP’s Mentorship Programme

BPP Dublin Mentorship ProgrammeOur Mentorship Programme includes four 45 minutes sessions with your mentor who will guide you through the preparation of your research and analysis project (RAP). At the end of the programme, you must submit your RAP; all projects must reach the ACCA Office in Oxford Brookes University before the relevant deadline.

The programme is extremely flexible as the sessions are scheduled when you and the mentor think it appropriate. The course fee is €800 and it covers your mentoring sessions as well as the BPP course material, which will be given to you on registration.

If you wish to enrol on the programme you must complete the enrolment form available on our website www.bpp.com/ireland or at any of our centres. The enrolment form must be submitted into the relevant BPP Ireland centre with the appropriate payment.

Registering with BPP does NOT register you with the Oxford Brookes University.
