Graphic and Web Design Intern, International Rescue Committee - San Diego Microenterprise Development Program

BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. One aspect of the IRC is to provide assistance to refugees resettling in the United States. The IRC San Diego Regional Office (IRC/SD) was established in 1975 to assist refugees relocating to the US and is the leading private, non-profit, non-sectarian resettlement agency in San Diego, having resettled over 20,000 refugees. IRC/SD has numerous programs to help refugees and asylees acculturate and work towards self-sufficiency. These programs include: case management; employment assistance; immigration services; financial literacy and Micro Enterprise programs; specialized programs for women and youth; and citizenship/English language classes. The San Diego IRC Microenterprise Program provides a comprehensive package of services for refugee entrepreneurs including direct lending, business plan development, technical assistance, sector-specific business trainings, marketing and advertising assistance, and other services as necessary, with the primary goal of starting, strengthening or expanding refugee owned businesses. SCOPE OF WORK: Under the supervision of the Microenterprise Program Coordinator, the Graphic Design Intern shall support the development of graphic and web design projects for the Microenterprise Program and the businesses it serves. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Develop business marketing material for IRC Microenterprise Program participants, including business cards, flyers, brochures, door-hangers, coupons, etc

2. Develop basic websites utilizing online DIY software programs (including, but not limited to, Weebly) 3. Develop marketing material for Microenterprise Program events, as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Enrollment in, or a graduate of, an accredited and related degree program 2. Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite package, primarily Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign 3. Basic knowledge of HTML 4. Previous experience with small business marketing campaigns a plus 5. Works and communicates well with people of varied backgrounds. 6. Ability to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision 7. Ability to work 8-16 hours per week on site
